What are American Values?

Im curious what you percieve American values to be.

Values huh? What they are or what they should be?

What American values are now:

Get as much as you can for free.
Spend as much money that you can.
Spend as much of other peoples money you can.
Instant gratification is not FAST enough.
Don't worry, the government will take care of you.
Work the very least you can get away with.
me me me, want want want, now now now.

What they should be: (imo)

Working hard and being able to enjoy the fruits of your own labor.
Take care of yourself, work hard, the government is not your mother and does not owe you a lifestyle.
Live within your means.
Help others as much as you can.

Traditional 18th Century Western values. Personal Responsibility. Gender Roles. Patriarchal Society.

Rightist reactionaryism, how quaint.

There is not such things as 'American values'. There are only the values held by the American people at any given time.

True.

Not a value, more of a tenet, would be the understanding and acknowledgment of the rule of law.

War?
Profit?
Instant gratification?
Blame gaming?
Temoporary marriages?
Out of wedlock children, there seems to be no shame associated with it now so it must be a value.
Fear driven politics?

Those are a few of the current American Values that I see.
But as correctly stated above they change and are not what they used to be.

Working hard and being able to enjoy the fruits of your own labor.
So you oppose capitalism and the collection of rent?
Take care of yourself, work hard, the government is not your mother and does not owe you a lifestyle.

So you oppose veterans' benefits?

When veterans were called to protect this country, they risked their lives to do so.

yeah been about 60 yeatrs since we did that though.

So many conflicting talking points!

So, to summarize:

jingoism and libertinism

What are American Values?

Being this is a message board...I am going to go out on a limb and say free speech is one of them.

If i worked hard and purchased rental property....its mine to rent. Work hard and buy your own to rent out.

If you served your country you earned those benefits, they are not coming to you for nothing.
