Sometimes freedom of speech is a real bitch. But the rest of us don't have to listen. Don't give 'em a mike, don't give 'em a camera, no coverage at all. Let 'em do their thing as far removed from the devastation as possible. They have a right to speak their piece. But they don't have a right to an audience.

After I post this I'm gonna send emails to every one of the local and cable news channels, and tell 'em is they so much as mention these fuckers I'll start watching some other channel. One of these days there's gonna be a riot with these assholes giving a well deserved asskicking. Might not be legal but it'll be well deserved.

I have family in Joplin.. so this just pisses me off the more. .

They are real assholes. I am a member of the PGR and do frequent escorts into Arlington National Cemetery. We're told not even to make eye contact with them, as we're being videotaped the whole time.

I can't tell you how many times I wanted to put the bike on the stand, get off, and punch one of those asshole's teeth in.

But that's what they want.

Thank God they're kept "off campus" at Arlington. They're not graveside. They're limited to the sidewalk on the way in to the cemetery. On the left side. Looking like a total freakshow as we pass - shouting insults at us.

The Westboro Baptist Church — known for its protests at the funerals of soldiers and people with HIV/AIDS — plans to picket in Joplin on Sunday, where at least 125 people have died in a tornado.

Waaaaaaay back in the day we passed a law that gave people the right to Free Speech. The SCOTUS has consistently sided with WBC on this regard. I don't agree with what they say, but I know they have a right to be as obnoxious as they want to be.

To mitigate this, society as a whole needs to find a way to marginalize the WBC. I propose the best way to do that is to ignore them.

The WBC is actually not that large of a "congregation" and it mostly consists of the vile Phelps family.

Oh really? We passed a law allowing free speech? ) I'm well aware. Free Speech is one thing. Picketing funerals isn't just "speaking" it's an act of hate. If you really want to break it down, it's bullying! If they want to teach kids not to bully each other (since that's been such a huge issue lately too) then maybe they should stop these people so that they can prove to kids, and to others, that it's not ok. The church members can say what they want online. We can't really stop that but we can stop them from showing up at places just to picket.

Thank you! I am one of those PGR people indeed. The only disadvantage is most funerals are held during the week, and it's hard to get off work sometimes. But, I do it when I can. It means a lot to the families. Every mission is emotional.
