Report: U.S. Protestants lose majority status - Oak Ridge, TN - Oakridger - Oak Ridge, TN

(AP) For the first time in its history, the United States does not have a Protestant majority, according to a new study. One reason: The number of Americans with no religious affiliation is on the rise.

The percentage of Protestant adults in the U.S. has reached a low of 48 percent, the first time that Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life has reported with certainty that the number has fallen below 50 percent. The drop has long been anticipated and comes at a time when no Protestants are on the U.S. Supreme Court and the Republicans have their first presidential ticket with no Protestant nominees.

"For the first time in its history, the United States does not have a Protestant majority, according to a new study. One reason: The number of Americans with no religious affiliation is on the rise"

1. On the one hand, as a person of religion, I'm disappointed.

2. But...I've seen your posts, and don't be so pleased about this information.
Do you understand the political perspective of mainline Protestants?

3. In 1907, a group of Methodists formed the Methodist Federation for Social Service (MFSS). The aim was to influence other Protestant groups. The next day, the group is received by President Theodore Roosevelt in the White House. One of the leaders, Harry F. Ward drafts a Social Creed that will be adopted by the 1908 General Conference and by the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America.

4. In the early Twenties the Communist Party made considerable gains in its program to infiltrate the churches. This effort was led by such prominent "American" clergymen as Harry F. Ward ( "one of the leading collaborators of, and apologists for, the Soviet Union." ...), Jerome Davis, William B. Spofford, and Albert Rhys Williams. at the 1942 convention of the Federal Council of Churches called for: Ultimately, "a world government of delegated powers." Complete abandonment of U.S. isolationism. Strong immediate limitations on national sovereignty. International control of all armies and navies. A universal system of money.... Worldwide freedom of immigration. Progressive elimination of all tariff and quota restrictions on world trade .... A "democratically controlled" international bank ....
APOSTASY -- The National Council Of Churches

You're down with that, aren't you?

And this:

5. The Social Gospel enthusiasts switched the aim from labor rights to attacks on the “profit motive,” …capitalism.

a. “The church, therefore, in the opinion of the federation, must accept
the Marxist point of view…The federation, therefore, wants the religious leaders to preach a religious creed, not based upon the Bible and in defense of the American way of life, but one that is based upon the atheistic foundations of the philosophy of Marx. The federation wants the ministers to declare their judgment against the social economic system under which Americans live and prosper today in favor of the Socialist system, which in Russia and the satellite countries has brought the peoples.” Read the ebook Investigation of Communist activities in the New York City area. Hearings (Volume pt. 5-6, pp. 1969-2143) by United States. Congress. House. Committee on Un-Am

6. The percentage of Americans who attend and belong to a church has remained constant for over 70 years. But predominantly liberal mainline Protestant denominations have lost members for over 50 years. “From 1960 to 1988, mainline church membership declined from 31 million to 25 million, then fell to 21 million in 2005.[6][7] Today, they are a minority among American Protestants, claiming approximately 15 percent of American adults among their adherents.[8]” Mainline Protestant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I won't be pleased until all ancient god worship is put aside for science. Walking on water, resurrection, witches, flat earth, the hereafter, etc. is the biggest load of shit ever promulgated onto mankind in the history of the world. Nobody lives it anyway.

Well, only if you don't count progressiveism/lolbealism.

Surely you jest:

The universe was created in six days about 6000 years ago

Two naked teens and a snake in garden determined the fate of the whole human race

There was a flood in which the water level reached a depth of 29.000 ft and evaporated in a few weeks

Big fish puked up live men

Walls came tumbling at the sound of a trumpet

A virgin gave birth to the god of the universe

A man was able to walk on water

People were healed of leprosy by laying hands on them

Water was turned into fine wine

5000 hungry men plus women and children who also ate were fed with two fish and five loaves then 12 baskets of leftovers were collected

A man was hung on a cross and bled like a hog only to show up two days later fit as a fiddle

etc. etc. etc.............................

Fewer Democrats, what a wonderful thing.

You do know that unaffiliated churches tend to be fundamentalist, don't you?

Science and God aren't exclusive to one another. Knowledge is not a sin....belief is not ignorance.

So? How does belief in any of those things hurt you?

Do lefties really think "real freedom" equals a census report indicating that protestants are less than 50% of the population? Might I suggest that religious bigots get a life?

I know one thing. I'm 78 years old and during my lifetime this nation's overall attitude about religion has morphed from one which didn't even have the choice of NONE, AGNOSTIC or ATHEIST on military enlistment forms to one where those who doubt can openly declare it on desktop computers in their home so millions can read it.

When I was in grammar school, 3rd and 4th grades we began each day with the pledge of allegiance and the lord's prayer. The teachers assigned each student a bible verse on Monday's to memorize and recite back to the class on Thursdays or Fridays. Let them try that horse shit now.

Because of my childhood brainwashing with that ancient fairy tale it took me 60 years to get over it. I will be voicing my opinion about the whole story until I die.

If the god of the universe came down 2000 years ago and dropped off the only keys to the kingdom with a bunch of ignorant camel herders who believed in witches and thought the earth was flat he/she/it has one helluva sense of humor.

The Founding Fathers admitted that they made a typo error when they drew up the Constitution. They meant to write "Freedom FROM Religion", not Freedom OF Religion.

How about using the word "atheists" instead of lefties? I am a Democrat and a Christian.....political leanings have nothing to do with religion.

To be fair to Mr Plate, One of the more outspoken atheists, Mr Penn of Penn & teller is more libertarian than liberal.

Although most atheists do tend to trend left, it is by no means the persuasion of all of them.

I have bad news for you Dummmbell. The same religious freedom that allows you to be a proselytizing atheist permits anybody (and everybody) else -- should they so choose -- to believe in a higher power.

In other words, you senile pantload piece of crap, you will never "be pleased."

I'm good with that.
