Welfare Or The Alternatives?

What are the alternatives to welfare? What do we do with those poor and less fortunate that can't care for themselves? We have millions of citizens that are unemployed, disabled, homeless, elderly, and children not old enough to work or care for themselves. We have citizens that can't afford proper health care, and rely on Medicaid to get help when needed. We have food pantries with empty shelves, shelters with not enough beds, and families living on the streets, some eating out of trash cans. We have tent cities erected by the homeless, and many of our vets are sleeping in parks and on sidewalks.

We hear and read the comments from those that say welfare encourages poverty and unemployment. We hear and read the comments that describe those on welfare as lazy, moochers, and baby factories. We also hear some say that if we ended welfare, it would force people to find jobs and support themselves. But, there's hardly ever any mention concerning where those millions of self-supporting jobs are.

So, what's the alternative to welfare? Do we allow citizens to starve to death, die from lack of medical care, die from exposure to the elements, and allow them to continue eating out of trash cans when they can find food in them? Do we close shelters and food pantries, and allow families with young children to continue living on the streets? Do we forget about being humane and concerned, and become hardened to the misfortunes of others? If not welfare, then what?

Workhouses. Round them up, make them work as slaves, and when it suits us, march them on foot to the nearest port, put them on boats and send them back to Ireland ;)

Just leave them alone.

Nature has a way of taking care of these things.

Yes, it's sad that those that have, look down on those that don't have. We have many cruel and heartless people in this country. I read their comments on this subject almost every day. Many never realize that it could happen to them someday. Some believe are exempt from hardships and doing without. It's really sad.

As human beings, I believe its shameful that we turn our backs on the less fortunate. And for those who care only about money, feeding, housing, free birth control, readily available abortion would cost less than welfare and be more humane.

Sadly, most RWs are more concerned with punishing victims and playing victim themselves to actually care about other people. "Workhouses", "let nature take care of them" (IOW, starve to death).

And, many will tell you they're "christians" - the same sort who whine about a war on xmas.

Work programs, FDR style.

NO able bodied person should be allowed to draw any welfare benefit as long as 10-15 million illegals can find work here.

Fifty years of the "War on Poverty" that has paid people to lay around and fuck has led to this "Great Society" so full of the problems you bemoan.

We need a new policy.

The truly disabled, mentally and physically, should be taken care of.

The able bodied chronically unemployed/unemployable should be given a choice, enter a WPA/CCA type training program, and earn a check while you are being trained to become productive, or, starve.

Yes, I agree that there're things that need attention that some of them can do. We have infrastructure issues that need urgent attention. Infrastructure projects would be a great start. I also agree that we need to end welfare for the millions of illegal immigrants and send them back to their home countries. We need to strictly enforce immigration laws. But, I also believe for many, we need to support them in any way that we can. Especially less fortunate children and vets.

Nobody is ever going to fall for putting the workshy to work, until the useful idiots bring us real socialism.

Then they will fill the gulags.

As for the less fortunate children, the "children" long ago replaced "patriotism" as the last refuge of scoundrels.

I agree. We have many that are so inhumane and self-centered, that the poor and less fortunate are some sort of ill or a sore on society. Yes, we do have the heartless and cruel among us. I have a hard time understanding how anyone could turn their backs to the needy. I also agree that many claim to be a Christian, but in reality, are lower than the devil himself. We have many phony Christians, especially the church going goody-goodies.

It is Thursday in Dallas GA.

Time for people to be at work.

Now, go out and take a short drive around town as people go to work.

Take another one around 2pm, as the day warms up, and look at all the able bodied young people doing NOTHING.

You didn't see them this morning, they were all asleep as the "suckas" went to work.

They were the little kids you feel for, not long ago.

It is time to do things differently.

Professional victimization is just paying too well.

Conservative welfare utopia

"At this festive season of the year, Mr. Scrooge," said the gentleman, taking up a pen, "it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor and Destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."
"Are there no prisons?" asked Scrooge.
"Plenty of prisons," said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
"And the Union workhouses?" demanded Scrooge. "Are they still in operation?"
"They are. Still," returned the gentleman, "I wish I could say they were not."

Yes, we have many afflicted with "Blind Patriotism", many. But, no one can deny the fact that children can't care for themselves. Children are dependent on adults for everything. And, it's not only children. We have the elderly, the disabled vets, the mentally challenged, and the handicapped. Some just can't care and provide for themselves. Yet, we hear many anti-welfare people group everyone together, and call them users, moochers, freeloaders, lazy, and worthless humans. And, they call many women on welfare baby factories.

Yes, as I've already said, some do take advantage of the system. It's true that some abuse welfare, and put more effort into cheating the system than they put into being self-supporting. Yes, it's Thursday here in Dallas Ga. We have very few non-workers here, which is very unusual compared to most places. Yes, the streets are busy all during the day, especially on work days. I admit that we do have the slackers, the lazy, the moochers, and the abusers. But, in my opinion, they make up a small percentage of those the genuinely need assistance. Welfare is needed, and it is important that we remember that we're human and not cold blooded and uncaring. We can't throw a blanket over the whole lot and classify all by what a few do.

I always make a distinction between the truly needy, and the able bodied assholes that steal their benefits.

Living off the government is an acceptable occupation to far too many.

Welfare is an occupation to many.

As for the children, they would not be here if we did not subsidize their mothers.

We never end poverty until we get a grip on poor children having poor children.

That involves mandatory birth control for those who cannot care for their children, and criminalizing workshy behaviour.

Sound harsh??

Yes, there are exceptions, I agree. But, what about the majority that really need assistance?

What are the alternatives to welfare? What do we do with those poor and less fortunate that can't care for themselves? We have millions of citizens that are unemployed, disabled, homeless, elderly, and children not old enough to work or care for themselves. We have citizens that can't afford proper health care, and rely on Medicaid to get help when needed. We have food pantries with empty shelves, shelters with not enough beds, and families living on the streets, some eating out of trash cans. So, what's the alternative to welfare? Do we close shelters and food pantries, and allow families with young children to continue living on the streets? Do we forget about being humane and concerned, and become hardened to the misfortunes of others? If not welfare, then what?

As for the less fortunate children, the "children" long ago replaced "patriotism" as the last refuge of scoundrels.
I always make a distinction between the truly needy, and the able bodied assholes that steal their benefits.

Living off the government is an acceptable occupation to far too many.
Yes, some do take advantage of the system. I agree. But, what I was mainly talking about, are those that genuinely need assistance.
