Welfare 3500/Month ??? Is that even possible ?

True story yesterday at the dealership.....

"I'll try to make this as short and to the point as I can.

One of my salesmen here had a woman in his office yesterday wanting to lease a brand new Focus. As he was reviewing her credit app with her he noticed she was on social security disability. He said to her you don't look like your disabled and unable to work. She said well I'm really not, I could work if I wanted to but I make more now than I did when I was working and got hurt (non-disabling injury).

She said the gov't sends her $1500.00 a month in 1 check, she gets $700.00 a month on an EBT card (food stamps), and $800.00 a month for rent. Oh yeah and 250 minutes free on her phone. That is just south of $3500.00 a month.

When she was working she was taking home about $330.00 per week. Do the math and then ask yourself why the hell should she go back to work. If you multiply that by millions of people you start to realize the scope of the problem we face as a country. Once the socialist have 51% of the population in that same scenario we are finished.

The question is when do we cross that threshold if we haven't already, and there are not enough people working to pay enough taxes to support the non-working people? Riots?? Be prepared to protect your homes.

She didn't lease the Focus here because the dealer down the road beat our deal $by 10.00/month. Glad to know she is so frugal with her hard earned money."

Were they sour they lost the deal or is it possible someone could get this much money (say...if they were disabled) ?

$3500/month....untaxed (not sure if that is the case) equates to about $4500/$5000/mo.

Wow.....

BTW: This was on a local Ford dealers Facebook page (or so the e-mail I got states).

I still find it all a bit tough to believe.

As you should.

Your math is off, unless you imagine that 250 phone minutes a month is worth $500.

1500 SSD
800 rent subsidy
700 Food stamps
$3000

She must be the primary provider for 4 or 5 people in her household to get that amount for food.

And if she is, they are all eligible for their own income...ssb, tanf, and child support.

So now it's $3500.

Plus the energy subsidy.

You guys would probably die of apoplexy if you ever saw the money that gets poured into the EMPLOYED people with disabilities program...

Special equipment to accomodate whatever disability, transportation $$, incentive $$, even special vehicles to transport...and the earned income is excluded so the clients still get their disability, medical foodstamps and whatever else.

Meh, wouldn't bother me a bit.

Rather see it go to a disabled person getting a chance to contribute than a fat CEO making bad decisions.

Thousands and thousands...so a handicapped person can clock in for a few hours a day.

I hooked a guy who was a brittle diabetic up..he'd worked all his life as a parts runner for automotive shops out in the country...sometimes Napa, sometimes John Deere...he used a little motorcycle or a little beat up truck, and he went all over the countryside. But as a brittle diabetic he would get super sick and be out for weeks and months, in teh hospital or whatever...

But when he could, he was a working fool. I managed to hook him up with epd so that all his income from work was excluded, he could get his medical and his meds without having to not work to qualify for the programs...it also means that they don't lose their disability status if they work.

He ended up paying a small premium (very small) and was able to have medical and retain his disabled status, but work as well...it was a huge boon for him. He'd been frittering along since childhood with no freaking medical coverage, dealing with raging systemic infections and diabetic coma...what a mess. He needed glasses and dental work...

It's a good program to know about.

Welfare needs to be enough to pay the bills, buy basic food supplies, and warm clothes. Other than that, it should be low enough to encourage people to look for work.
$3,500 a month sounds like a lot, but it could depend on the area you are living in, and the prices of groceries, etc.

If you are taking other people's money, you shouldn't be living in a high rent district. If you have to move states....move states.

We don't owe anyone "comfort".
