Well, it's over, the dems have lost the seniors with the cuts in Medicare, now the Unions which is their base. Chris Dodd stating health care hangs by a thread, well that thread was just broken.:clap2::clap2::clap2:

Obama, Union Leaders Meet on Health Care Benefits Tax; 2-Hour Session Yields No Deal; Unions Predict Tax Could Provoke Rank-and-File Backlash
President Obama told labor leaders in a tense two-hour closed door tussle over taxing health care benefits that he backed the tax, which labor leaders vehemently oppose, but also supports efforts "to protect working men and women."

The problem? Labor leaders say you can't have it both ways. Some now openly accuse Obama of doing that and violating one of his most important early promises in the health care debate: that if you like the health coverage you have, you will be able to keep it.

The unions are just like anyone else.

They're all for health care for everyone as long as someone else pays for it.

Maple, you are a silly person if you believe any of what you wrote is accurate. The seniors and the unions will not come to the Republicans, because they will still get a better deal with the Dems.

See, that's an issue our party needs to work on, and instead of just yelling "no".

Hey the Police Union endorsed Brown in MA,

It's a start

Are you denying the article or again did you not take the time to read it. I am not saying they will go to the Republicans but you can bet your buck wheat that they will not support the democrats, it's a tax on middle class Americans that make LESS than $250,000 a year.

This health care plan is over, the dems are already trailing badly in the polls, they lose the unions- it's over for them for years and years to come.:clap2::clap2::clap2:

Trash the plan and start over.

a better deal with the demons?:lol::lol::lol::lol: the demons sold your radical asses out to big Pharma, and to the health insurance companies, and how is the obamie gonna pay for it??? by taxing the cadillac plans the unions bargained for years ago.. which is why Detroit is bankrupt today.. oh the humanity..

Willow is so silly, chasing her own tail. Yes, the unions and the seniors will support the Dems if WE don't come up with realistic plans with which we can convince seniors and union members are better off in our camp. If we don't, they will keep voting Dem, because union members and seniors vote in large numbers.

As for Seniors, I can tell you that cuts to Medicare is not going to a send a signal to them that democrats like them so much and if anyone has looked at any polling data lately Seniors are the one group MOST opposed to this healthcare bill. The reason is really simple, most of them do not believe that cutting Medicare is a good method of fixing a system that is already facing bankruptcy. While the democrats like to tout the fact that AARP endorses the bill what they tend to forget is that AARP is in the insurance business and with MEdicare Advantage gone, who do you think will make a LOT of money replacing it? Yes, AARP, so of course the management if AARP is going to endorse it. Mos democrats running for office this year , especially those in areas with a large majority of Senior voters are going to have a hard time should this bill pass in it's current form convincing them that the bill will improve their lives.

As for Unions, they see this bill now as the progressives who were dumped a little while back see this bill and that is that many promises were made, but few were kept and all that remains is not healthcare reform but rather an attempt at a legislative win at all costs. Without the tax on the so called cadillac plans the bills permise of not impacting the deficit falls apart and if Union members are exempted from paying taxes as some in private industry would be, congress knows that is a blatent constitutional mattter and again the bill falls apart. In fact this bill represents nothing in the way of healthcare reform other than one thing and thats it's requirement for pre-existing conditions that could have been done in a one page bill and would have had LARGE bi-partisan support.

100% correctomundo!

Nope--it's you that is incorrect. Obama has ticked off seniors--by cutting 500 billion out of medicare. Maybe you can explain how you cut 500 billion out of Medicare with millions of baby-boomers entering the system--"without" health care rationing to the elderly?

He has now pissed off 12 major large labor unions--by taxing union workers on the benefits they receive--Not only that but 31 million non-union employees will be looking at getting their benefits taxed also.

When government hits people's wallets--regardless of party--they actually pay attention.

The multi-trillion dollar question is:--What will dems do now?

It is hypocritical for us to yell about the Dems cutting Medicare money, because we have opposed it from the beginning, and the Dems will shellack us on the issue. Answer: the GOP should be trying to increase Medicare.

Taxed medical benefits: most of the 31mm are GOP, so we have them anyway. The unionistas are not going to come to us unless we promise them they get to keep what they have with the GOP also promising to attack unions. Do you really think we are doing to do any of that, and do you think the unionistas are stupid?

Come on, Orea, step up and offer positive solutions, instead of saying "no".

Actually Jake here in uber liberal MA the unions are endorsing Scott Brown, a republican.

This is mainly because the current version of health care, the one that will pass, has HUGE taxes on the private insurance plans most union workers have.

Most of these union workers took pay concessions in order to get very good health plans for their families, now the congress in this most recent bill has put in a 40% tax on health plans such as these.

Thats 40%.....a higher percentage than the income tax on the wealthiest americans.

This alone is turning many union members, and some union boss', against anyone supporting obamacare.

 Remember: "If you are in the middle class--I will not raise your taxes by one single dime"-:  If this bill passes, it's going to be a hell of a lot more than a dime that middle class Americans will be paying for Obamacare--:lol:

Obama's hope and change means we will all have to hope to have little change left after taxes

The unions will not endorse the GOP. Point it out to me if they do. Endorsing a candidate is not endorsing the party.

Yet again, the most intelligent post in the thread, Navy. Anyone who wonders why the unions are concerned about the Obamacare need look no further than the two words.... 'Cadillac Plan'. Unsion members have 'em, Obamacare trashes 'em. End of.
