We the People launches

So teaching children to think about government and civic input and giving them a platform to do so is wrong?

Interesting.

Intergrating new forms of communication, soliciting feedback and keeping up with new technologies is wrong?

Interesting.

Aligning social medias with new thinkers by opening a platform with a national voice is wrong?

Again, interesting.

And I can't get on the site. Too busy.

We the People is easy to use. Here's how it works:

Create or Sign a Petition: Anyone 13 or older can create or sign a petition on WhiteHouse.gov asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range issues.
Build Support and Gather Signatures for your Petition: It's up to you to build support for a petition. Use email, Facebook, Twitter and word of mouth to tell your friends, family and coworkers about the petitions you care about.
The White House Reviews and Responds: If a petition reaches 5,000 within 30 days, it will be reviewed by a standing group of White House officials, referred to any other relevant policymakers and an official response will be issued.
The idea of petitioning the White House or the government isn't new, but this tool is. The White House has never tried anything like this before, and as a result, we'll probably have to make some adjustments as we go. As we do, we'll keep you posted on the White House blog.

So think about an issue you care about, who you can reach out to join you, and get started:

P.S. Help spread the word about this new tool by forwarding this email to anyone else who would find We the People interesting.

It's a good idea.

Shame that its technology doesn't yet work.
It is a great idea, except that people won't take it seriously and obama will not take the few sound ideas seriously.
On that note:
We the undersigned demand the immediate resignation of President barack h obama and Vice President Joseph Biden to be effective at noon on October 1, 2011, and instruct the Chief Justice of the United States of America to administer the oath of office to his lawful successor, John Boehner.

Post the link! I'll sign! We could probably get the signatures in a week. I know a couple of facebook pages which would be good for posting notices. But maybe push back the date anyway to allow as many people as possible to see it in the 30 days allowed? no.

lol - actually I wonder how many have already asked for that. Could have led to the site crash.

I think the age 13 thing is because the White House is hoping that a lot of schools will use it. They'll be the easiest to fool by whatever form letter they get back. They'll think they're part of the process and will have good feelings about Obama. Which is what it's all about.

For the right reasons it would be a good idea. Is anyone gullible enough to believe the motives are pure?

Did Obama listen to the public before the midterms? He will only listen to those he agrees with. Which makes this a pointless effort in wasting time and resources.

You know this is going to get just as much well-deserved ridicule as ATTACK WATCH!, right?

I already reported it to AttackWatch. :D
Good work, citizen! The government depends on civic-minded folks such as yourself snitching on others in order to gain even more power over individual lives.

And remember, when you get denounced for something you may or may not have said, your time in the gulag makes America stronger! :salute:

I wonder how many petitions they'll get from the 13 year-olds requesting better pizza in the cafeteria, or that the English teacher they don't like be sent to Cuba?

Has anyone actually started a petition? I tried, but it tells me I have to verify my email address. Problem is, there are no links to do that.

Typical.

EDIT: THey appear to have corrected this... creating an account now... link to petition to follow.

Repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and pass a law that can really improve care and reduce the deficit

This is a petition to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and prompt congress to pass (and the President to sign) a truly bipartisan health care reform law that can actually achieve the goals of improved healthcare, lower cost, and reduced deficits.

Please sign this important petition on We the People. Thank you.

Here's mine.

Pass the Flag protection amendment. As supported by the American Legion

“The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States.” A proposed amendment to the United States Constitution.

This Proposed amendment was presented to the 111th congress and had 84 co-signers. In 2006 it missed being passed by the Senate by one vote.

If I start a petition for Obama to resign, and it got 200,000 million signatures, would he resign or ignore it?

It would disappear before it got 20 signatures.

HRPuffinstuff Post would start a petition asking him to stay on, and they would comb the graveyards until they got 500,000 million American signatures. :D

That would be a good way to destroy the sight.

How about a petition for Obama to stick his head up his ass?

You can't petition for something that's already happened.
