People were already abusing the red X. When you start red X'ing in the Lounge where people are just saying nice things to each other, that says to me that the person doing the red X'ing is just a troll trying to show their displeasure with someone that has different views whether political, religious or otherwise instead of just engaging them in conversation. If I don't like someone that much that I just want to smack them, I just ignore their posts and go on with my life, I don't need a Red X to show my displeasure.....or I can challenge what they said, like an adult.

If people redexed me, I just redexed them right back. It does end up becoming a back and forth, but what I found annoying about it is when someone would go through the whole thread to redex all my posts and I would keep getting alerts for them! That was getting really annoying. I suppose I could have turned that feature off, but I like to get notified of the thanks too.

Yeah, if someone wants to disagree....why don't they just post in one of these = ? Is it because they like that it's being counted and recorded so they can then use it to brag that they didn't get as many redX's, because the people they redx, who are adults, don't go around redx'ing just to annoy someone.

No matter what we do some will feel like they were fucked. At the end of the day we as staff have to do what we feel is best for the forums and its members. It's never an easy decision but we have to come to one.

I quite proudly negged someone until they had 5 red splats. Believe me, he earned every one of them. THEN, the formula for splats was changed so that it would be next to impossible to get any more than one. THEN it became possible to opt out of the rep system all together.

So, its a revenue thing. Pretty much what I thought was going on.

The disagree button was useful for those people who, no matter what facts you bring to an argument, will simply just ignore it and continue on. It becomes a significant waste of time to devote 150 to 500 words to disagree with someone repeatedly who is completely closed-minded.

I haven't and won't complain about the loss of the disagree feature because I am here voluntarily and to say its a waste of My time to reply to someone highlights the fact that the entire forum is a waste of a persons time with regard to political discussion.

However, the more posts made, the more active the website looks to be, and traffic is what drives advertisers to websites. In the end, its about the income.

And fuck the long time loyal members, I guess.

Ernie you piss and moan about everything and will never be satisfied. Let's not pretend anything will make you happy.

I could be made happy here. Hell! I was very happy here 2 1/2 years ago.

What we have now is essentially three positives. Even the "informative" one comes off as being positive.
I want something to be able to use, and then immediately see how many "yays" or "nays" a post received.
Well we have a "yays" with redundancies.

The red X was perfect, unfortunately Jake Starkey and a few others whined like little bitches, and the result is now what we have.
It's like having a ballot with three choices and as long as you choose John Smith, you get to vote.

Can we please fix this with either going back to the red X or some other icon to display disagreement ?

Here's the problem as I see it. It's annoying to get a red x and not know why. It's similarly annoying to be reading a thread and having to wade through mountains of posts which simply say "I agree" before you get to one which disagrees and thus furthers the dialog. An Agree Button HELPS the board dynamic by removing the "I agree" clutter. A Disagree Button doesn't work the same way. Disagreement is the basis of debate. Even when used properly the disagree button doesn't further debate. It adds nothing to the community and only satisfies the reader. The reader can still silently disagree and the community doesn't know the basis of the disagreement. It's in the dark. The community doesn't get a benefit from an unexplained redex, only the reader knows why he clicked the button. No change with or without the redex.

Now though, the reader who disagrees can't satisfy himself with just clicking a button, now he has to explain his disagreement and this gives more vitality to the debate.​

I understand the appeal of the redex to the reader. "Aha, I got you bastard, you're wrong." but for the person who cot the redex, they're in the dark and so are the readers. I get the frustration, I've been reading some liberal idiocy today and it would have been nice to just click a button to show my disagreement but I got over it and then had to write a comment to explain my disagreement.

Writing furthers the debate, redex doesn't.
