We need to fix welfare now or else

Ever see Mad Max ? That's exactly what you'll get if or when they're cut off.
Have a look at Venezuela and Brazil. Go ahead. Vote for that.

Douger has a point, get rid of welfare and you'll end up with people living in shanty town slums like in South Africa and Jamaica, and our crime rate now will look like a picnic compared to what it will be if we do this.
The problem is the vast majority of murkins have never been anywhere and the ones that have hauled ass to some resort ,say in Montego, Buenos Aires, Caracas, or Rio and come home to tell people they have been somewhere. If they saw what likely awaits them it would scare the shit out of them. Can most murkins afford a bullet proof vehicle ? Their masters can and that's all that matters.

You are 100% right, alot of people just assume if you end welfare and food stamps all these people will magically go out and just get jobs, it doesn't work that way and there are not enough jobs anymore anyways. I have been to countries where there is no welfare or dole and it is terrible, people living in shanty towns that would make the worst inner city in the projects in the USA look like a spring break vacation spot, in South Africa people roll with bulletproof windshields and it is crazy, you can be driving around on the street and some guys with AK-47's will jump out of nowhere and take everything you got, this will turn America into a mixture of Brazil and South Africa, than people will see what poverty really is.

Social programs are killing this country slowly but surely. Far too many people are becoming dependent on other people to provide for their needs. It is not other people’s responsibility to care for them. They need to learn to care for themselves. Welfare is needed to help but it needs a way to force people to want to get off welfare. Until that happens welfare will continue to grow and the governments will continue to go more broke. It is not just the US it is happening around the world. Even the Romans found out it was a problem. It is like having a child at home. If you make life easy for them and provide everything, they will never leave home. You have to balance supporting them and making it uneasy to help them out the door and become responsible for themselves.

How many people are on welfare, MT?

How much money does welfare cost this nation every year, MT?

Do you know?

This is what always happens, when things get bad, blame the poor.

What do you think is going to happen when we finally get to the point we can no longer borrow money? What do you think will happen if the world currency changes from the dollar to another currency? I'm not saying to just cut them off. I'm saying we need to make it a little uncomfortable. Currently with wic you can only buy certain items. With food stamps you can buy anything and everything. It is just crazy. If you are on food stamps, you should only be buying what is necessary to survive. It does not need to provide you with what ever you want as long as it is not a hot food item. When I'm tight on money I have to spend wisely while someone on food stamps should be allowed to buy what ever they want? Why is it I'm in line and I'm buying bargain food and the person in front of me has food stamps and is buying luxury items?

What "luxury" items are people with food stamps buying?

Lobster and filet mignon are things you can purchase with food stamps.

just saying

Thats fair and you are correct, however I don't really see people on food stamps walking out of the grocery store with carts of lobster and steak either.

I agree with you, it's time the corporations and the wealthy pulled their own weight and worked instead of relying on the government dole. It's time taxes went to building our nation and its infrastructure and not building the wealth of the few. Good post.

Thanks for complimenting my post. I agree the rich should contribute more than the rest but at some point you have gone to far. Currently our corporate tax is the highest among developed nations. Currently the top 10% provide 70% of the tax revenue in this nation which is also tops among developed nations. Last when considering the tax rate don't forget the states. The corporate tax was 35% before the Bush tax cuts and are now something like 32%. If you corporation is in New York the corporate tax rate there is 15%. So combined the a corporation in New York would pay almost 50%. That is just crazy.

Two points: first, please stop using federal income taxes as a barometer of anything, because it is extremely misleading. When looking at federal revenues, you must look at all revenues and all taxes which include corporate taxes, excise taxes, and most importantly, payroll taxes. When FICA taxes are included, the numbers change drastically and the top 10% no longer pay nearly the rate you would think.

Only 40% of federal revenues come from income taxes. Another 40% come from payroll taxes, of which the largest portion by far is paid by the middle class. The reason for this is that SS taxes cap out at $106,800, so any earnings beyond that are not taxed. Secondly, payroll taxes only are paid on wages, not on capital gains which the wealthy derive a great deal of their earnings from. When it comes to payroll taxes, if you work you pay them, so even low income earners pay something.

Middle Class--Not the Rich or the Poor--Pay Majority of Federal Taxes, Says CBO Data | CNSnews.com

Secondly, this whole argument about corporate taxes being too high is completely wrong or at least misconstrued. You site the 35% corporate tax rate as if corporations actually pay 35%, when in truth they pay much less. In fact, many corporations end up paying nothing year after year.

That statement doesnt matter because Corps dont pay it anyway. So complaining about that is like complaining about the price of the shirt you just stole

If they pay nothing, then how is it that the top 10% pay 70%? How is it almost half the country pays no taxes? Your logic is not really based on facts. It is just your personal beliefs. Some don't pay taxes but that is because they are allowed to through rich welfare. That needs to go away as well but others pay a huge amount of taxes. We need to lower the rate and do away with all the loop holes. Of course that would upset a lot of tax attorneys.

The top 10% does not pay 70% of all taxes. Please do the research on this. The top 10% does pay approximately 70% of all federal income taxes, but federal income taxes only account for about 40% of total federal taxes.

Fix Welfare by creating employment for those who have none. Which will also fix our debt problem

Argument for welfare: there's no jobs available for those on welfare.

Argument for illegal immigration: they do the jobs Americans don't want to do.

Hmm...

Illegal immigrants will work for below minimum wage. Enforce the minimum wage laws and enforce the illegal hiring of immigrants who will work for less than the minimum wage, and you will most likely find people to fill those jobs.

1) The top 5% wage earners pay 58% of ALL taxes.
2) The bottom 55% of wage earners - not only pay ZERO income tax - but get more back then they paid in.

This line of thinking always fascinates me, consider for a minute that the top 5% pays so large a percentage, does that mean the bottom half or 40 percent are hiding their money in the mattress? No, what it means is the top makes a great deal more money off the nation that provides them the infrastructure, trained workers, and the rule of law to make so large an amount. Consider too that taxes exist in other areas than just the federal level. Everyone or most everyone pays state, wage, sales, real estate and other assorted taxes. So should the bottom pay more and let the kids go hungry or should the wealthy pay more and forgo the third home.

"On moral grounds, then, we could argue for a flat income tax of 90 percent to return that wealth to its real owners. In the United States, even a flat tax of 70 percent would support all governmental programs (about half the total tax) and allow payment, with the remainder, of a patrimony of about $8,000 per annum per inhabitant, or $25,000 for a family of three. This would generously leave with the original recipients of the income about three times what, according to my rough guess, they had earned."UBI and the Flat Tax

Look I have witnessed first hand the corruption of the food stamps and a large portion of them do it. Someone has a live in boyfriend instead of getting married. They have another child to get a bigger house. Having an adult child say they are living with you to keep the big house even though they live alone. Then they can sell food stamps to friends and relatives. Have them give you $75 to use $100 of food stamps. I even worked as a bagger in my neighborhood when I was 16 and seen people drive up in brand new cars and use food stamps for their food. I have seen a couple that live in government housing getting food stamps and power subsidies and taxes back at the end of the year. They also do landscaping under the table and made far more money than I did. I'm saying if you limit what can be purchased with food stamps by unit price you will stop a lot but not all of it.

The Conservative Nanny State

“Here is the brutal truth, exposed systematically, methodically, unsparingly. Forget the pork rinds and the hokey Texas twang: Conservative government is government by and for the upper class.” Thomas Frank

“Dean Baker is one of the most insightful and original economists in Washington. With this book, he exposes the prevailing myth of modern conservatives. They are not for limited government, as they claim. Rather, they are for a government that helps their own. Baker says it is time to balance the books. Government is by all the people, for all the people. It's that simple.” Jeff Madrick

"They aren't bleeding the country dry. Your obsessive need to collapse the system to create your socialist paradise is. Take your Cloward Piven strategy and shove it where the sun don't shine." California Girl.

Idiot.

Social programs are killing this country slowly but surely.

Yeah we do. Let's do away with Subsides to Oil Companies (Welfare). Let's do away with Subsidies to big Pharma (Welfare). Let's do away with Subsidies (Welfare) to Big Agra as well.

While we're at it. Do away with the tax-exempt status for ALL RELIGIONS AS WELL!!!!!

Yes let us start fighting oil companies in the US and start giving the money to Brazil to find oil there. Let's stop tax breaks for discovering new medicines and instead give the money to illness research. When you tax the rich it is the poor that feel the pinch.
