The last thing we need is another tax. Jesus you've seen what the government does with our money. What makes you think that they will handle the revenue they steal with a carbon tax any better than they handle the money they confiscate from us now?

If you want people to implement change, make it worth while. Don't punish them for merely driving to work or heating their homes.

Give people an incentive to install alternative energy sources. Don't tax them into submission.

We need a 100% tax credit for the purchase and installation of alternative heat, hot water, and energy systems for homes and businesses. Give new businesses that manufacture, install and service these systems tax breaks in their first 3 years of operation.

Change building codes to require all new construction be more energy efficient. Get rid of wooden 2x4 construction and switch to super efficient insulated concrete form building techniques.

Get government out of the energy biz and we'll have a faster change over to alternative energy. Jobs will be created and our country will be cleaner, safer and richer for it.

Taking more money from people and businesses will not hasten the process. All it will do is leave people and busineses with less money to invest in alternative energy.

So true, and why most new taxes often fail now. If they try to tax us much more with their track record a lot of people will probably start buying from Mexico and Canada when possible just to avoid giving them more money to waste.

So let me get this straight - a government needs to find new ways to tax us so they invent this junk science that we're completely destroying the planet. Meanwhile, it was warmer 1000 years ago than it is today. The polar caps were melted and so on. Where is the evidence that the wooden boats they sailed on caused global warming back then?

No, David, you are completely wrong. It was not warmer a 1000 years ago than today. And the polar caps were not melted, in fact, very little of the polar ice that is today breaking up was melted. The evidence for the manmade GHGs as the primary cause of the present warming is physics. Physics well established by Svante Arnnhenius in 1896. No, it's called logic, we exhale CARBON-dioxide. As a matter of fact the with the population level we currently have we do exhale more than our machines produce for any carbon based substance. Then you have to also realize that our bodies are made up of quite a bit to, so then they could tax you for the amount you release when dead, and they'd better do it before you die.

Really, I don't think either side has much of a clue, one is looking to cure symptoms instead of actual problems and the other just doesn't care at all.

Kitten, there is a natural carbon cycle of which we are part. The increase of nearly 40% of Co2 in the atmosphere is the result of burning sequestered carbon. Sequestered in the form of coal, oil, and natural gas.
