In an interview Monday, Cain said part of China's threat to the United States stems from its attempts to develop nuclear weapons -- even though China tested its first nuclear weaponin 1964.

"Yes, they're a military threat," Cain said on the PBS NewsHour, in response to a question from Judy Woodruff. "They've indicated that they're trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat."

Still think that Herman Cain has what it takes to be President?

China has had nukes ever since 1964, which is around 47 years.

You know.........this is just another pitfall that he's fallen into.

I personally don't think he's going to be in the race more than another 3 months.

How many times do you mental midgets need to reharsh useless sound bits and supposed I gotta statements? Are we to believe that Obama is so stupid that he really believes there are 57 states or that fallen soldiers are watching him in the crowd? Absolutely not.

Right now China is actively upgrading their military capabilities, which includes their nuclear arsenal. That is a fact! Nuclear Weapons - China Nuclear Forces
Cain was a 100% correct on that. He misspoke. It happens in a campaign. If you really believe he thinks China has no nukes, then your either dumb, ignorant or a partisan hack!

If you believe this then do you also believe all of Obama's gaffes? Oh he is a leftist so that is different right!

I remember this statement, and I cringed. Actually felt sorry for him.

Why feel sorry for him? He is a millionaire, has a masters in Computer Science, a successful CEO, businessman and radio personality. He is a cancer survivor. Just wrote a best seller. And he is soon to be President of the United States.

You feel sorry from him because he misspoke and used a poor wording! During a stressful campaign it happens. See Obama in 2008. Kerry, GWB, Gore, McCain, etc. In the age where everything is recorded and viewed by all more gaffes than ever pop.

Heck Joe Hair Plugs is a gaffe machine!

have his sychohants explained what he "really meant"?

oh yep, i see they have tried.......

Yeah......Gook93 is trying by attacking what Obama has said.

But.......like I said, between 2 sexual harassment suits that were settled for a year's pay, with another one on the way, talking about "uzbeki-beki-stan-stan" and other gaffes have shown that Herman Cain isn't really serious about the campaign, otherwise, if he did, he'd actually try to understand what is going on in the world.

Shit.........I've got more knowledge about what's going on in the world that he does.

Matter of fact, compared to Cain, Palin almost looks like a MENSA candidate.

Is Ghook93 guilty of a little deflection? I think he is.

Cain said he would provoke hostilities with Iran as well. Increase investment in defense. Challenge China militarily. Quite a statesman.

Of COURSE he won't last another three months. If the molestation charges don't do him in, it will be his dunceness. The bumbling buffoon is the biggest DUNCE this side of Hayluh Bawbaw's Missuhsaypay!

Yeah.......and as a Navy man his foreign policy with Iran kinda offends me. We're a military force, not targets to be dangled out in hopes of starting another war.

Food for thought,

The military budget of the People's Republic of China (PRC) is the portion of the overall budget of China that is allocated for the funding of the military of the People's Republic of China. This military budget finances employee salaries and training costs, the maintenance of equipment and facilities, support of new or ongoing operations, and development and procurement of new weapons, equipment, and vehicles. Every March, as part of its annual state budget, China releases a single overall figure for national military expenditures.[1]

The Chinese government's published 2011 military budget is about US$91.5 billion,[2] the second largest in the world and up about 12.7 % from 2010 (US$77.95 billion).[3] This figure would mean that for 2011, China's military expenditure as a percentage of GDP would be 1.4%.[4]

Compare that to,

Figures from the Department of Defense and the president’s 2012 fiscal year budget show that when those other costs are included, the national defense budget for the agency comes to about $700 billion for fiscal 2011, which ends Sept. 30. That’s just under 5 percent of GDP

One can call into question China's Military buildup all they want to, however one thing is clear, that we spend much much much more than any nation on earth on Military spending, and Cain in this case is somewhat out of touch.

The guy wants war to bad to be elected to the presidency. We should elect a president that at least tries for peace, but is always ready to defend the states. Cain is nuts.

Think that since he's stuck in the past, he's gonna want to reignite the Cold War?

According to the monthly Hong Kong magazine,
Cheng Ming, after a large-scale Second Artillery
exercise, Vice Chairman of the Central Military
Commission (CMC) General Guo Boxiong addressed
the participants to discuss the posture the PLA should
maintain toward the United States. General Guo told
the exercise participants, “China must strive to increase
the capabilities of its strategic nuclear weapons if it
wants to stand firm against the United States, which
routinely treats China as an enemy in its strategic
planning.”5

A really good paper, if one cares to read it, however it serves to show a few things, one is that had Herman Cain bothered to use the wording used in it, then perhaps many would not think his foreign policy skills are less that stellar, however given his recent many gaffe's that seems doubtful. The other thing that comes to mind is the very nature of China's policy towards the United States when it comes to Military matters is well known and has been for some time, and given that one would think a President or candidate would not want to further that thinking, but rather seek ways to change it.

China Hiding Nuclear Warheads In '10 Miles Of Tunnels'
Thursday, December 1 2011, Georgetown students claim China is hiding massive weapons arsenal in underground tunnels; Not your typical class project: Three-year study causes controversy on Capitol Hill
China is hiding nuclear warheads inside a vast network of tunnels, according to a three-year investigation by a group of Georgetown University students. The Asian Arms Control Project was led by Georgetown Professor Phillip A. Karber, a former top Pentagon strategist. The researchers say they identified locations of the tunnels by combing through hundreds of Chinese military journals and documents as well as studying TV reports and satellite images, according to the Washington Post, which broke the story Tuesday.

Their findings suggest the U.S. has greatly underestimated the size of China's weapons arsenal — but some experts have questioned the study’s methodology. “It doesn’t make any sense to build ten miles of tunnels to hide one nuclear weapon,” Karber told the Daily News. And ten miles is a drop in the bucket compared to what China has admitted. In 2009, as the students were aggressively moving forward with their research, the Chinese military admitted to constructing 3,000 miles of tunnels. The students’ yet-to-be-released 363-page report is causing a stir in Washington, and prompted a Congressional hearing.

The project has drawn criticism from some analysts for drawing on Chinese blogs and a docudrama about the Chinese military. A member of the Union of Concerned Scientists told the Washington Post that the study’s methodology was “incompetent and lazy.” "We’re not drawing conclusions from the blogs; they tip us off to areas for further research,” Karber told The News. “How can scientists make these claims when they haven’t even seen our sources?” He added that the group studied about 200 hours of video, most of it from state-run television stations.
