We might work with Obama: McConnell - Yahoo! News

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Sunday it might be possible to work with President Barack Obama in the coming year to do "important things" for America if Obama could adhere to a centrist path.

"I'm hoping the president's pivot to the center will be more than just rhetoric and we can actually do some important things for the country
," McConnell, a Republican, told the "Fox News Sunday" program.

Sounds good and plausible but why isn't he preaching that same message to the far right extremists in the GOP? Is it because he's worried about keeping his seat? Obama butted heads with Democrats that disagreed with him so why isn't McConnell doing the same with the far right in his party?

But he's still going to sit in his usual side of the aisle for the SOTU address.

Lawmakers on the Hill haven’t quite broken out the corsages — yet — but the high school level drama is on as senators and representatives scramble to find suitable across-the-aisle seating partners for Tuesday’s State of the Union address.

...

A night typically marked by highly symbolic partisan coordination, from seating charts to dramatic, orchestrated applause for the president, now has become about the buildup: Which Democrat will sit with which Republican on which side of the aisle? And now that the room is all mixed, will it become as awkward as a high school dance where no one knows exactly what to do when sitting next to a new partner?

Perhaps the hubbub is not quite what Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) had in mind when he sent an open letter to Congress asking his colleagues to break tradition this year because of the Jan. 8 shootings at a constituent event for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.). Approximately 60 lawmakers have signed onto Udall’s letter.

But this is Congress, and if lawmakers weren’t trying to get a few minutes of attention, even for the noblest of causes, it wouldn’t be right.

Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky will take a seat at the leadership table on the Republican side of the aisle, as usual, for President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night, bucking gestures of chumminess among lawmakers.

With calls for more civility in Congress and less partisanship after Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' shooting in Arizona, some lawmakers said they want to show some camaraderie at this year's speech by having Democrats and Republicans in mixed seating.

But McConnell likes his view.

"If people want to mix it up, they certainly can. We don't have seating assignments for most of our members," he told "Fox News Sunday."

"More important than the appearance of sitting together is what we do together. And the American people are more interested in actual accomplishments on a bipartisan basis here in the next six to nine months than they are with the seating arrangement at the State of the Union," he added.

Screw that crap, working together.

The Obama and his Comrades in Arms ran OVER the Republicans when they had a majority, I don't want them now working with the little dictator.

They were elected this November to STOP the Obama and that is what they "better" do, or else. We the People ARE WATCHING.

Typical McConnell

"We are willing to work with you if you do everything we say"

Which is what McConnell is really saying, although he is nothing close to being "centrist." "Centrist" as used by him means coming more towards the right- the GOP right.
