Obama on Benghazi the hurricane: “We leave nobody behind”
POSTED AT 10:07 PM ON OCTOBER 30, 2012 BY ALLAHPUNDIT
If President Romney had said something this oblivious with the cloud of Benghazi over his head, it’d be the lead story in political media for the next 24 hours. As it is, it’s “president comments on storm” soundbite filler for the evening news. Democratic membership has its advantages.
ndeed, but if you focus too much on what they didn’t do that night, you risk forgetting what they didn’t do before then. They effectively left Chris Stevens behind the moment they denied him any real consulate security and stuck him with a skeleton crew of Libyan contractors. How is it, per Panetta, that we can’t send armed troops into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on but we could send an unarmed diplomat and his staff?

And Ignatius is apparently quite right that the drones they sent to the consulate during the attack weren’t armed. Fox News reported that earlier today. After you watch O here, I recommend reading this NYT piece about the next intervention looming for the U.S., a clean-up effort in Mali against jihadists who managed to establish a base there with the help of heavy weapons they looted from … Qaddafi’s arsenal in liberated Libya. Maybe we should start gaming out which African country will be destabilized by intervening in Mali next. Exit quotation: “I think Charles is a little too hard on Obama. Frankly, it’s huge progress that he didn’t blame this hurricane on a video.”

Right? I still can't get over the "there was a big breakdown, and somebody didn't do their job, they'll be held accountable." LOL You gonna punish yourself their douchebag?

No one has been held accountable yet, have they?

Saying that someone would be held accountable isn't the same thing as actually holding someone accountable. Apparently, the only person this royal regime intends to hold accountable is the filmmaker who made a silly film two years ago.

Been away for awhile, little distractions like MCAS Beaufort, watching the bathing suits pass by on the beach at Tybee Island, enjoying the snow falling at 37 degrees at the intersection of I-77 and I-81, sitting in a non forward moving, but still rocking and bouncing vehicle in the rain and wind somewhere on 81 north of Harrisburg at 59 degrees waiting for the PA State Police to re open the highway in the eye of the storm.
Here's a little insight into the mind of Obama on Benghazi.]

"During the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama ran successfully on the widely accepted notion that he was The One We had Been Waiting For. On September 11, 2012 — well before the first presidential debate on October 3rd — he may have thought that he could do almost the same during the 2012 campaign. However, since a disaster in Benghazi for which he might be held responsible could diminish his chances, it was necessary to avoid any appearance that he himself might be in any way culpable. A ruse concocted about an obscure anti-Islamic video probably looked as as though it would be the most likely to work, provided an outpouring of many inconsistent facts could be delayed, perhaps until after November 6th. After all, his brilliant war on Islamophobia should be working as well as hoped.

The Great Benghazi Cook off Chill out

Hence, the “cooling out” process, well described by Thomas Sowell, proceeded. President Clinton had done a decent job of cooling perceptions of his amorous escapades and keeping them from becoming a bigger deal than they did (strange word, “decent,” in that context).

When the accusations that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton first surfaced, he flatly denied them all. Then, as the months passed, the truth came out — but slowly, bit by bit. One of Clinton’s own White House aides later called it “telling the truth slowly.”

Anybody else here remember President Nixon’s modified limited hangout — “release of previously hidden information in order to prevent a greater exposure of more important details” — during Watergate?

By the time the whole truth came out, it was called “old news,” and the clever phrase now was that we should “move on.”

It was a successful “cooling out” of the public, keeping them in uncertainty so long that, by the time the whole truth came out, there was no longer the same outrage as if the truth had suddenly come out all at once. Without the support of an outraged public, the impeachment of President Clinton fizzled out in the Senate

Unfortunate, but at least one other president (JFK) had enjoyed extracurricular sexual adventures while in office (but probably not in the Oval Office) with no politically adverse consequences. Then came President Obama’s Libyan misadventures, less titillating but more central to the nation’s security.

We are currently seeing another “cooling out” process and another “modified limited hangout,” growing from the terrorist attack on the American consulate mission in Benghazi on September 11th.

The belated release of State Department e-mails shows that the Obama administration knew, while the attack on the American consulate was still underway, that it was a coordinated, armed terrorist attack. They were getting reports from those inside the consulate who were under attack, as well as surveillance pictures from a camera on an American drone overhead.

About an hour before the attack, the scene outside was calm enough for the American ambassador to accompany a Turkish official to the gates of the consulate to say goodbye. This could hardly have happened if there were protesting mobs there.

Why then did both President Obama and U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice keep repeating the story that this was a spontaneous protest riot against an anti-Islamic video in America?

The White House knew the facts — but they knew that the voting public did not. And it mattered hugely whether the facts became known to the public before or after the election. What the White House needed was a process of “cooling out” the voters, keeping them distracted or in uncertainty as long as possible.

Not only did the Obama administration keep repeating the false story about an anti-Islamic video being the cause of a riot that turned violent, the man who produced that video was tracked down and arrested, creating a media distraction.

All this kept the video story front and center, with the actions and inactions of the Obama administration kept in the background.

The White House had to know that it was only a matter of time before the truth would come out. But time was what mattered, with an election close at hand. The longer they could stretch out the period of distraction and uncertainty — “cooling out” the voters — the better. Once the confidence man in the White House was reelected, it would be politically irrelevant what facts came out....."

no, hes not a lair, seriously. He believes most especially in these instances , everything he says.

he has spent his young adult life and forward in a bubble.

He (like all politicians but even more so) has an out/over sized ego, and in Obama case remember, everyone he knows ( as in values) has tripped over themselves telling him what a wunderkind he is, hes the best of the brightest. He believes that.

So, if you asked him if he thought his comment on no one left behind was 'off' and explained why he'd look at you curiously and earnestly tell you why you are wrong....

Or, if you asked him if he saw thew irony in his team putting out these missives on how hes at the DC command center overseeing Fema etc. and compared that to hitting the hay the night we lost 4 men, he'd look at you perplexed again.....

More stuff, America haters, through and through: Dineesh D'Souza's summary that Obama regards America as a rogue colonial bull elephant rampaging across the rest of the world looks more and more accurate with each passing day.

That he has no ability to see reality for what it is demonstrates another reason that he needs to be replaced. Can you imagine how it must feel right now to be in service to the U.S. overseas, whether in the military, diplomatic or civilian endeavors and realize that if you get in trouble, no one has your back? Can you imagine being the family member of someone serving and knowing that it could be your family member radioing for help and having that help be denied? We were told that military assets were moved into position to help. Why were they not deployed?

Oh no.. if you'll recall Obama and the press couldn't wait to get that situation room shot out after Bin Laden was taken out by the Seals. It's only when Obama is watching the Seals taken out by those he helped with American airpower, is that shot hidden.

[Message on an I-95 billboard near the North Carolina/South Carolina state line: "The Navy's Seals took out one of America's enemies. Its up to us on November 6th to take out the other one." Meanwhile Obama & Co are intent on just running out the clock.]

"As we have written more than once, the news media’s collaboration in the Obama administration’s coverup of the Benghazi scandal is a scandal in itself. There are, of course, a few exceptions, most notably Fox News. But in general, Benghazi has not received anywhere near the attention it deserves from journalists. I think most voters are generally aware that the administration provided inadequate security prior to the terrorist attack on September 11. I would guess that around one-half of voters understand that the administration tried to pass off a terrorist attack as a spontaneous protest over a YouTube video. And maybe 25% or so are aware of the charge that the besieged Americans at the Benghazi consulate called repeatedly for help, but were ignored by President Obama. Moreover, beyond any bare awareness of the facts, there is a big difference between what we see today–Bengahzi consigned to the back pages or not reported on at all, as in the case of the New York Times–and what we should be seeing, i.e., questions about Benghazi featured on every front page and the evening news.

So, despite the mass media blockade, is public awareness of the magnitude of the Benghazi scandal deepening? There are signs that to some degree, it may be. The best evidence is a joke that Jay Leno told last night:

Well, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is back. Not for gays in the military. It’s President Obama’s new policy for questions about Libya. Don’t ask. Don’t tell.

Late-night comedy can be a useful barometer because mainstream comics like Leno don’t tell jokes their audience won’t get. Leno’s joke assumes that most Americans know that there is some kind of coverup going on with respect to Libya. It does not, however, presume specific knowledge of the explosive allegations that have emerged on Fox over the last few days.

A group of former special operators have set up a Facebook page called SOS: Special Operations Speaks. SOS posted this graphic on their Facebook page:

{"When Obama called the Seals, they got bin Laden. When the Seals called Obama, they got denied."}

Facebook took the graphic down twice on the ground that it violated their terms of service, but it is now back up on the SOS site. Apparently Facebook thinks criticism of Barack Obama is somehow beyond the pale. Keep that in mind next time someone tells you that liberals are in favor of free speech.

Earlier today, four senators-John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Kelly Ayotte and Ron Johnson–
wrote to President Obama to demand answers on Benghazi. Here is their letter in full:

Dear Mr. President:

The American people deserve to know all the facts surrounding the terrorist attack in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, that resulted in the murder of four Americans—including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Unfortunately, you and your senior administration officials have not been forthcoming in providing answers to the many questions that have emerged.

On October 9, 2012, we sent a letter to the senior intelligence officials in your administration in an effort to obtain answers to these questions. More than three weeks have passed, and we still have not received a response. To make matters worse, since that original letter, we sent several subsequent letters to you or to your senior administration officials asking a number of questions, and we have failed to receive a single letter in response.

The American people and their representatives in Congress need to understand what you knew about the Benghazi terrorist attack and when you knew it. We also have a right to know what steps you and your administration took—or failed to take—before, during, and after the terrorist attack to protect American lives.

In order to facilitate an immediate response to our important questions on behalf of the American people, below are the questions from the letters we have sent over the last three weeks.

In our October 9, 2012, letter that we wrote with Senator Saxby Chambliss, we asked the following questions of Director of National Intelligence, James R. Clapper, Jr.; Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus; and Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and Deputy National Security Advisor, John Brennan:

• Within 48 hours of the attack, was there credible information and reporting to suggest that the assault on our Consulate and other U.S. facilities in Benghazi should be characterized as a terrorist attack?

• At what time did intelligence community agencies or elements first assess that the events in Benghazi were a terrorist attack?

• What information did the intelligence community provide to senior policymakers that led some of them to draw the conclusion as late as five days after the attack in Benghazi that it was the result of a spontaneous demonstration, not a terrorist act?

On October 15, 2012, Senator Graham sent letters to Mr. Brennan, Director Clapper, Director Petraeus, as well as National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon. The letters highlighted the fact that on June 6, 2012, assailants placed an improvised explosive device (IED) on the north gate of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. The IED detonated and ripped a hole in the security perimeter that was described by one individual as “big enough for forty men to go through.” This attack was preceded by an earlier IED attack against the Consulate in April 2012. Based on these facts, the letter included the following questions:

• Were you aware of these attacks?

• Did you inform the President of these attacks?

• If so, what action was taken to protect our Consulate?

• If you did not inform the President, why not?

On October 15, 2012, Senator Graham sent you a similar letter asking the following questions:

• Were you informed of these attacks on our Libyan Consulate?

• If not, why not?

• Did you consider these serious events?

• If you were informed, what action was taken to protect the Consulate?

On October 19, 2012, we sent a follow-up letter to the same three senior intelligence officials in your administration noting that ten days had elapsed since we sent the October 9 letter.

On October 24, 2012, we sent a letter to you asking the following questions:

• Why did your administration insist that a spontaneous demonstration was responsible for the attack on our Consulate, but as the State Department later divulged, no demonstration even occurred in Benghazi?

• Why were requests for greater security assistance by officers on the ground not fulfilled, especially in light of the fact that there had already been two attacks on our Consulate in Benghazi this year and an attempt to assassinate the British Ambassador-events about which you should have known?

• In light of the deteriorating security situation in Benghazi and the escalating series of attacks in the preceding months, why were there not rapid reaction forces or other military assets available in the region to deploy to Libya in the event of an emergency on September 11, 2012-a day that our intelligence agencies consistently cite far in advance as a moment of heightened security threat for the United States and our citizens and interests abroad?

On October 26, 2012, we sent a letter to Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta; Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus; and Attorney General, Eric H. Holder requesting the immediate declassification of the surveillance video in and around the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi for the two days-September 11 and 12, 2012-that it and related U.S. facilities were under attack.

On October 27, 2012, Senators McCain and Portman sent a letter to Secretary Panetta asking the following questions:

• What military forces were available to provide support to U.S. personnel in Libya?

• What military forces were requested to provide support to U.S. personnel in Libya, by whom, and what forces were provided?

• What communication and coordination did you have with the President and other members of the National Security Council regarding possible Defense Department support in Libya?

Your failure to answer these important questions will only add to the growing perception among many of our constituents that your administration has undertaken a concerted effort to misrepresent the facts and stonewall Congress and the American people. We look forward to a prompt and thorough response to these questions. The American people deserve a full accounting of what happened in Benghazi where four brave Americans were murdered.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

John McCain
, United States Senator

Lindsey Graham,
United States Senator

Kelly Ayotte
, United States Senator

Ron Johnson
, United States Senator

Copies of the letter were sent to Leon Panetta, Eric Holder, James Clapper and David Petraeus.

Obama won’t respond, of course. His strategy, as always, is to stonewall, and his objective is to run out the clock by keeping a lid on the story until November 6.

Hurricane Sandy has had, I think, a mixed impact on the presidential race. It has, of course, given Obama an opportunity to look more or less presidential, but that was inevitable. More important, perhaps, is that it gives reporters and editors an excuse for ignoring Benghazi. At this point, it seems clear that the only way Benghazi will assume a prominent role in the presidential campaign is if Romney himself raises it, forcefully and repeatedly. Romney did not go after Obama on Benghazi in the last presidential debate, and there is no reason to think he intends to start now. That is probably a wise decision; Romney wants attention focused on the economy during the last week of the campaign, and while major news outlets would be forced to talk about Benghazi if he brought it up forcefully, the thrust of their coverage would be to criticize Romney for “politicizing” the issue....."

Try telling that to the families of those slain men.

They not only left em behind they guaranteed they would be dead.

What a bunch of fucking losers in the WH and State Department.

No one has been held accountable yet, have they?

Saying that someone would be held accountable isn't the same thing as actually holding someone accountable. Apparently, the only person this royal regime intends to hold accountable is the filmmaker who made a silly film two years ago.

You have an Admiral that knows nothing about land warfare and a General who doesn't have a Combat Infantry Badge ( which means he never lead troops in combat ). Deciding on a situation that they are clueless about.

If it had been left up to the Marine Commanders on board ships or land in the Tactical Area of Responsibility, the lack of a military action would be a mute point.

Didn't you hear, Obama said he was going to "fix it'. I wonder how he thinks he can fix it for Sean Smith's Mom or Ty Woods Dad..
