And Obama is as much or more of a uniter than has been any president during my lifetime. And I'm not that young.
Reagan was a uniter - I disagree with a lot of what he did - but he galvanized support for his positions pretty darn good. So far Obama has done a pretty good job of that but it is far too early to declare him a uniter or a divider. Those who have opted to divide themselves out of the process have done that to themself - without Obama's help.

Our system of voting for the electorial college (not President) steers where candidates go. Candidates are attempting to create sound bites not layout good policy. Voters are largely apathetic. Its really not leaders that we should worry about but policies. Politicians should just do what the majority of their voters want and let the voters decide policy.
