We are the 99%

If one homeowner suffers foreclosure, that might be his fault. If millions of homeowners suffer foreclosure, if we have an epidemic of foreclosures, that is not the fault of the homeowners.

If one person loses a job and can't find a new one, that might be his fault. If millions of people lose jobs and can't find new ones, if the unemployment rate climbs to high levels and stays there, that is not the fault of the unemployed.

If one person gets stuck with a stagnant income and can't find a way to move into a better career, that might be his fault. If, over thirty years, most of the people in the country find themselves in that situation, that is not their fault.

The 99% includes most of the 80-90% who have jobs. They're still suffering from stagnant and declining wages, increasing health-care costs, and lack of job security. It includes the majority of homeowners who do not face foreclosure. They're still seeing their home values decline to less than the remaining amount they owe.

It's likely that most of the people who are involved in OWS full time don't have jobs (or they couldn't be there). That isn't an indictment of OWS. It's an indictment of America, rather, that so many people don't have jobs. It's an indictment of America that a college education has become a road to crushing debt rather than success. It's an indictment of America that the middle class has shrunk. It's an indictment of America that we have austerity for everyone except the very rich, who just become richer. And above all, as the OP's cartoon illustrates, it's an indictment of America that neither of the major political parties is prepared to do squat about all this, both of them being bought and paid for advocates for the plutocrats.

It's time for a little class war. It's time to make a lot of noise. It's time to take our country back. If OWS as it currently exists isn't enough to push the politicians into serving the people instead of the banks and corporations, there's plenty more that can be done. A general strike, for example.

This is only the beginning.

Yet those who done without during the good times, living within their means and preparing for a rainy day, are still in their homes. These folks are to feel sorry for those who over extended themselves while living like kings on average mans pay.

Just tell us what you plan to replace capitalism with.

This is not about replacing capitalism. The economic meltdown had nothing to do with capitalism, only cronyism and corruption. I think liberals and conservatives can both agree on that point. This is about putting the power of representation back into the people's hands.

Don't get me wrong, liberals and conservatives will still tear each other's throats out in the future, but hopefully without someone stealing from us both while we do it.

You can fuck off with the "99%" crap then. You are not the 99%. You aren't even .0001%. Get a fucking job. Pay your own way.

Why do you always default to personal attacks? Your use of profanity and unfounded conclusions ("pay your own way". How do you know s/he does not?) suggest your opinions are mostly emotion based.

You hold a mostly failed ideology as the one and only truth. Is that what makes you angry? You're support of 'conservative' principles, based on unproven hypotheses and simple phrases ("Government cannot create jobs") ("Those who earn over $200,000 per year create jobs") ("liberals are [fill in the adjective]) makes you appear quite silly.

I probably will get flamed for this, but I am begging everyone of this board to at least consider the merits of OWS (Occupy Wall Street). What we have seen for quite some time now is the purposeful division of our society along very few issues. (Gun control, gay marriage, abortion, etc.) At the same time, we have seen the Treasury gutted, our Civil Liberties curtailed, and the normalization of a permanent state of war.

It doesn't matter which vetted politician is in charge, (Obama, Bush, Clinton) we get tossed to the side all the same. Both Bush and Obama bailed out the banks. Obama continues to throw the Bill of Rights out the window.

I am sure everyone knows that the laundry list of problems looks endless, but we must recognize that a many faced monster turns us against each other while reaching into our pocketbooks. These few that attempt to steer hatred of our fellow citizens into our lives have no political agenda, they are only concerned about their own gain, and they win every time a liberal calls a conservative a fascist or a tea bagger, or a conservative calls a liberal a hippie or a commie. These people that we are dealing with at the top are political chameleons who have no interest in the survival of the nation, only the endurance of their egos and pride.

Long live the Republic.

If noting that you and your ilk are simpletons is "flaming" you, then yes. You are going to get flamed.

The Occupy Wall Street nitwits have nothing to offer.

They are against "greed."

Good. Me too.

But they offer no hope of a serious solution.

They don't like bailouts for those greedy corporations? Ok. Me neither. I didn't support it when President Bush did it in the first place and I haven't liked it since the Obama Administration has piled on.

But, that's where we part company.

I still say taxing a corporation is stupid. They just pass along the costs, you ignorant tools.

Occupy Wall Street isn't even a coherent and cohesive group. A bunch of wannabe hippies who regret missing out on the 60's. Some are Marxists tools. Some are socialist tools. Some are fucking anarchist tools. Some are hapless humps like the Alex Jones can't find enough looney conspiracy goons. Soros backed, and supported by similar drek, the Occupy Wall Street simpletons cannot even fathom the entirely predictable results of the stupidity they SEEK.

They are worse than mindless sheep. They are more akin to the proverbial lemmings playing follow the leader over a cliff.

They remind me a lot of the character in the Billy Joel song with their rage and their utterly "pointless point of view":

And there's always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he's never been able to learn from mistakes,
He can't understand why his heart always breaks.
His honor is pure and his courage as well,
He's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell!
And he'll go to the grave as an angry old man.

. . . . and there's always a place for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
He's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
He struggles and bleeds ‘til he hangs on the cross
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

Just tell us what you plan to replace capitalism with.

You've asked that before and in a couple different threads now.

Who said anything about replacing capitalism?

the stated goal of these street shitters is to bring down capitalism. I merely want to know what capitalism is going to be replaced with. Why is the question so hard for the left to answer?

Your stated goal is to torture children to death in your basement.* I merely want to know how you are going to dispose of the bodies. Bury them? Burn them? Eat them? Why is the question so hard for you to answer?

* That is to say: this is EXACTLY AS MUCH your stated goal, as bringing down capitalism is the stated goal of OWS.

Long live the 'Republic'? Which one? The People's Republic of China?

Get a fucking job, asshole.

Conservatives in Congress are playing with fire if they think they can pander to their base by insulting Obama while doing nothing to actually try to tackle the economic problems this country faces.

It only serves to rub salt in the wounds of the unemployed to insult them and imply that it's their own damn fault for their current predicament of no job, no healthcare, declining values of their homes, and the disappearance of their retirement savings.

People are very angry. And however angry the tea party folks may be about spending, I can assure Republicans in Congress that tea party anger doesn't hold a candle to the rage being felt by people at or near the middle or the bottom of the economy who are getting royally screwed while Wall St execs thrive and conservative Republicans twiddle their thumbs when they're not sitting on their hands.

Poke a hungry dog with a stick, and you're likely to get bitten! Thumb your nose at Americans who are reeling in the aftermath of the financial collapse of 2008, and you're likely to end up on the receiving end of riots like the British experienced just a few months ago. They didn't see it coming, but they should have. America may end up getting a dose of the same reality check.

How deplorable, defecating on cars now plus the stench from the crowd is becoming unbearable. Probably a 99 percent chance you'd catch something if you joined in with this group.

The terms agreed upon were based on ostensibly fixed amounts. They were terms which the borrowers could have and would have complied with. But what they were led to believe were fixed mortgages turned out to be very carefully worded ARMs (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) which increased to two and three times the original terms, usually during the first six months. A moral individual will regard this as theft!

An intelligent person would regard it as bullshit. Lenders can't lie about the terms of your loan. The give you a summary of your loan terms before you sign the papers. Anyone who doesn't know they are signing up for an ARM is mentally retarded.

So what's your excuse?

If you don't agree that taking advantage of simple, well-meaning people in this way is criminal even though it's legal there is something seriously wrong with your sense of simple decency and you should not be trusted around children.

"Simple people" is the correct term for them. Perhaps we should force lenders to provide all liberals with a lawyer before they sign a mortgage.

I suspect most are protesting our nation's march on a course toward Plutocracy, an oligarchy of the rich. Some recognize that this oligarchy will include the Christian Clergy, who will decide on the purity of our citizens. Those deemed unpure will lose their franchise to vote (those who dismiss this statement as hyperbole need to see how efforts are being made in the states to restrict voting, blaming voter fraud. he Big Lie).

The OWS movement was predictable, the swing of the pendulum so far right was sure to create a counter revolt. It does evoke some humor, the far right's fear of and explotation of working men and women created the movement to the right, and the rise of the left.

I am not buying into swung to the right as the cause of the protest. But it sounds good.
Coming from a state that embraces voter fraud ( blue state ) You know by stating a thousand extra votes then voters is normal. I find efforts to require identification a must have. Unfortunately for you sir and to the detriment of many, our republic is working as planned. It is run by the people.

You're right about all of that. There IS a lack of leadership on all those counts. The fact that our colleges of Science and Engineering are filled with foreign nationals instead of American kids is gonna perpetuate the problem.. The fact that Americans think we should still making tee shirts and wiffle balls and toasters instead of leveraging our advantages in the world is gonna perpetuate that problem.

MAYBE -- all those professors who planted those anti-capitalist, anti-business, anti-American seeds in the heads of the protestors SHOULD HAVE been preparing those have-nots for 21st Century type manufacturing and innovation jobs. Because the truth is -- THAT'S a global reality. If we don't shift our workforce DRAMATICALLY and QUICKLY, all we got left to do here -- is to loot what lying around.. THAT'S what you're egging on here isn't it Dragon.. Skip the hard part of LEADERSHIP and move right to the fire sale...

After all -- I had to endure all that Noam Chomsky Leftist drivel for more than a decade. You know the stuff..

"America only has 5% of the population, but it controls 30% of the WORLD'S wealth". OR

"America only has 5% of the population, but is uses 40% of the WORLD'S oil".

Hey guess what -- the World Socialists are getting their wish. The REDISTRIBUTION of wealth and resources has come to a theatre near you.. YOU mister should be CELEBRATING the victory... Instead now that we have to COMPETE to maintain our standard of living in the face of that redistribution -- you want to expand the revolution domestically.

A lot of noise???

How about a little thought? 30 days of demonstrations and no demonstrable products?? No subcommittees. No formation of draft legislation? No coalitions with politicians?

Nope just a lot of trash and noise. A complete waste of time and resources. Unless you're a mob that doesn't care about solutions. THe only politicians to even weigh in are America's only HONEST Socialist Bernie Sanders and the Prez. It would be hypocrital to draft Barney Frank or Chucky Schumer wouldn't it?

Want the government to serve the people? Make them CONCENTRATE on the fundamentals. Like fair elections, ballot access, border security, EDUCATION, technology advancement, and making it easier to spawn NEW CORPORATIONS that can take down the OLD COMPLACENT ONES... And be more responsive to the people. Right now -- all Big Government Regulation and control does is to FAVOR the HUGE multinationals while protecting them against NEW capital-formed agressive competition.. See my footer banner for a clue as to how Big govt punishes the 10s of thousands of small biz's making children's products while giving Mattel a pass.

There is plenty of thought out there -- there are voices in academia, in economics, in politics on how to reverse the trend of the last thirty years. One of the better ones is Paul Krugman. There are plenty of others, too.

But they aren't being listened to by those in government, because the voice of corporate contributions drowns out the sound of the people's pain.

Noise is exactly what is needed.

"These people that we are dealing with at the top are political chameleons who have no interest in the survival of the nation, only the endurance of their egos and pride."

These people we are dealing with at the bottom, who are trying to bring down the hand that feeds most of them, are doing the GOP a great favor, in the long run. The Independents are watching and guess on whose side they won't wish to be....

They aren't at the bottom. They are, for the most part, spoilt brats with an entitlement attitude...Anarchists for Big Government. Two of their demands: free education and getting rid of student debt say it all.

Why aren't they protesting the Universities for pushing massive student loans on them for economically worthless degrees in things like Transgender Studies?
