This is a tuatara, a living fossil.

"Often called living fossils by those who know they really do exist, the tuataras sure might look like a lizard, but they’re not. The tuatara is really a living dinosaur that belongs to the order Rhynchocephalia. That order of dinosaur became extinct about 60 million years in the past. All went extinct…except the tuataras."

Heck, some claim today's birds are dinosaurs.

Tuataras are not dinosaurs.

Birds are, in fact, dinosaurs.

So, while your thread title is accurate, that was only by accident, on your part.

The article you linked is hot garbage .

Let me guess they found it near a nuclear test sight and it calls itself Godzilla. And even though it's a foot tall just the sight of it send thousands of screaming Japanese running for cover.

As noted elsewhere birds are confirmed dinosaur descendants.

Looks like a funky Iguana to me.

These here are no joke, and poisonous. This is a fat sumbitch here.

It is rather funny- it shows that even Creato-Christian cult members can lead us to knowledge- entirely by mistake- but heck- I had never heard of this fascinating reptile before.

Tuatara have been referred to as living fossils,[2] which means they retain many basal characteristics from around the time of the squamate – rhynchocephalian split (220 MYA).[25] However, taxonomic work[26] on Sphenodontia has shown this group has undergone a variety of changes throughout the Mesozoic, and a March 2008 molecular study showed their rate of molecular evolution has been the fastest of any animal yet examined.[27][28] Many of the niches occupied by lizards today were then held by sphenodontians. There was even a successful group of aquatic sphenodontians known as pleurosaurs, which differed markedly from living tuatara. Tuatara show cold weather adaptations that allow them to thrive on the islands of New Zealand; these adaptations may be unique to tuatara since their sphenodontian ancestors lived in the much warmer climates of the Mesozoic.

No, IsaacNewton, you are wrong. They found the tuatara on the islands of New Zealand. It is a living fossil because only two species living today. There is no evolution.

"Fascinating tuataras facts:

1. These little dinosaurs only require a breath of air once an hour.

2. They don’t drink water.

3. They have three eyes. Every tuataras sports a third pineal eye on top of their heads that has a retina and primitive lens. The eye is functional—it’s connected to the brain. By the time the dinosaurs become adults the third eye is overgrown with skin and no longer functions.

4. Some researchers believe the third eye evolved to protect the babies from flying predators that might swoop down from the sky.

4. Female tuataras carry their eggs for four years."

Birds could not have evolved from dinosaurs. They lived with each other.

LOL No evolution. Nuclear physics does not exist either. Nor does Geology. LOL The ignorance of the willfully ignorant and willfully stupid is fascinating. I cannot imagine of any Deity worth worshiping that would approve of this kind of willful blindness.

The jokes on you. There is no macroevolution such as birds evolving from dinosaurs.

The discovery of a reptilian dinosaur could rewrite history. Let's keep in mind what I highlighted in blue below. It could make a big difference.

"The discovery of an unusual fossilized skull in eastern Utah is shedding new light on Earth’s history.

The 130 million-year-old skull belonged to a previously unknown “reptile-like mammal.”

Experts have described the new species, named “Cifelliodon wahkarmoosuch,” in honor of paleontologist Richard Cifelli, in the journal Nature.

“Based on the unlikely discovery of this near-complete fossil cranium, we now recognize a new, cosmopolitan group of early mammal relatives,” said Adam Huttenlocker, lead author of the study and assistant professor of clinical integrative anatomical sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, in a statement.

Cifelliodon belongs to an extinct branch of mammal ancestors, experts say (Jorge A. Gonzalez)

Experts from the Utah Geological Survey and The University of Chicago also worked on the study.

Cifelliodon belongs to an extinct branch of mammal ancestors, according to the study.

Deseret News reports that, although it suckled its young, the hair-covered Cifelliodon laid eggs. There are only two kinds of egg-laying mammals in existence today – the platypus and the spiny anteater species.

The discovery boosts paleontologists’ knowledge of how mammals evolved and dispersed during the age of dinosaurs. The find also suggests that the division of the prehistoric supercontinent Pangea continued for about 15 million years later than experts previously thought. It also suggests that mammal migration and that of their close relatives continued during the Early Cretaceous period 145 million to 101 million years ago.

“For a long time, we thought early mammals from the Cretaceous (145 to 66 million years ago) were anatomically similar and not ecologically diverse,” Huttenlocker said, in the statement. “This finding by our team and others reinforce that, even before the rise of modern mammals, ancient relatives of mammals were exploring specialty niches: insectivores, herbivores, carnivores, swimmers, gliders.”

Weighing up to 2.5 pounds, the Cifelliodon was about the size of a small hare.It had teeth similar to fruit-eating bats and could nip, shear and crush,” explained the University of Southern California, in its statement. “It might have incorporated plants into its diet.”

From that article: "The discovery boosts paleontologists’ knowledge of how mammals evolved and dispersed during the age of dinosaurs. "

No, it doesn't bring any major change to modern science at all. No, evolution has not been upended. This fool never even read the article.

Fort Fun Indiana Your idiocy knows no bounds. I already highlighted it in blue which you misquoted. The important parts are these mammals dispersing during the age of dinosaurs and that Pangea the supercontinent continued for longer than previous thought. As for natural selection, creation scientists do state that the animals aboard Noah's Ark weren't like the mammals today. They "evolved" through natural selection into today's mammals and did it rapidly, not in millions of years.

There's a big fucking difference between a fucking lizard and a dinosaur. Of course, you're religious and don't have that ability to think like normal people so I feel sorry for you.

Friend, Religion is truly the greatest threat modern civilization faces. There's no question about it as its very goal is to promote idiocy and caveman behavior!

Fake news..... no such thing as dinosaurs. They never existed in the first place. Fake news. Three eyes, rubbish, nothing has three eyes, if you don't have two eyes, you're not normal, therefore you should be bombed into extinction.

Oh, I've never seen one, so they clearly don't exist. Fake news.

I misquoted nothing. You misinterpret this to be some upending of accepted theory. It is not.
