What is USā€™s stand on UN reports about the involvement of the Darfuri rebel movement in the running conflict in South Sudan and the heinous human rights violations committed by these groups?

Reports indicated that it was the Ugandan regime who directed Sudanese mercenaries to fight in the newborn state.

A report released on 8 May by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on the human rights situation revealed that Sudanese rebels, namely Darfurā€™s Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), were providing military support to government troops fighting rebellion in the country, which erupted in mid-December last year following a split in the ruling SPLM party.

According to UNMISS reports lasted for months; the Darfuri rebels have committed heinous crimes in Bantio and Pariang.

Under the Ugandan pressure, these groups especially Justice and Equality Movement led by Jibreel Ibrahim and Sudan Liberation Movement led by Arko Mini Menawi have sided with Juba in the fighting.

The involvement of Sudanese mercenaries in the civil-ethnic conflict has also raised astonishment of many observers. The involvement of these mercenaries and negative forces in the ethnic violence will only add salt to the injury and lead to more unnecessary complications that threaten regional and international peace.

If Washington is really concerned with the stability in South Sudan , it has to take real action against these foreign mercenaries instead of just threatening to impose sanctions on some South Sudanese figures.

If Washington forces the Sudanese rebels out of South Sudan, this will put an end to the bloody conflict and maintain USā€™s interest in the region because the existence of the Darfur rebels in Juba and Kampala will fan the fighting in South Sudan especially the rebels are not capable to fight the Sudanese army in Darfur.

If US and the international community are serious, they work on maintaining regional and international peace and security. They have to issue Strict measures against these groups because their existence will threaten peace and stability in the entire region. Washington will be aware of this fact in the near future.

Some observers, however, believe that Washington is seeking the leave Juba to be a source of security threat to Khartoum so as to contain Khartoum through the newborn neighbor.
