Having read through most of the threads on this topic, forgive me if I ask: Was there any, I mean any music prior to 1965?

Is there anyone here who knows anything, whatsoever, about Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Verdi, Lehar, Vivaldi, Berlioz, Kalman, Brahms, Strauss or Gilbert and Sullivan and Lerner and Loew??

Or is MUSIC now defined as electronically "enhanced" (i.e. made noisier) noise, accompanied by pictures/images of drug-addicted, guitar-smashing nobodies who would be even bigger nobodies without the electronic amplifier?

Just asking.

No, yes, yes, yes, yes, no, no, no, no, yes, yes, yes, no, no, no.

Of course there was music before 1965. Good music at that

The real question is has there been any music since 1980 or so?

FJO, our thread "Oldies" is not limited. We have had contemporary as well as dated music. If that is your love, I recommend that you start a classics thread, or threads that dwell on your favorite Renaissance musician(s).

We also have a thread of classic works, Then Sing My Soul, America.

If you like it, start it! :)

Yes, I am well acquainted with all those you mentioned. I played piano for six years, and earned most composers statues, as my abilities improved. Also having a father and aunt, educated in opera, I was exposed often to their classically trained beautiful voices and performances.

Music, was also called that "something" I had to face if I didn't practice everyday....

Facing the music is a lost pass time. Facing the music often made me change my tune, march to a different drummer, pick up the beat and stop fiddling around.

I'm not just whistling Dixie. It helped live in better harmony with those around me and stop hitting sour notes in my personal relations. It's funny how it can really strike a chord and provide the key I needed to move forward.

Whether in song or silence.

Good bad or indifferent, music is with us always and we need it as we need the air.

I too, took a little piano. Enough to appreciate good classical music. But, alas, I really don't have musical talent. Just enjoy it.
