Warren Buffet buying 143 newspapers

Why does your topic title say he is buying 143 newspapers when he is buying 63?

Buffett seems to think newspapers are revenue generating businesses, but many of them are struggling to survive in the Age of the Internet.

Mid-market newspapers are an interesting investment, and I get the local appeal and staying power argument vis a vis large metro papers.

But young people don't read them.

My bad. I must've merged the 63 newspapers and the $142 mil he's buying them for. It's still a worry though.

Cool with me if he buys what he wants, this is America after all. He should buy stuff while he still can.

Hmm. I have to respect free market arguments. However, there's a reason that there were initially safe guards in place regarding banks and media. Seems the politicians have gotten away from them.

I'm cool with a small number of limited regulations here and there. (annually reviewed) However I don't think this need apply to newspapers (or any media really) in 2012. There is just no possible way to form a monopoly these days. At least without government coercion anyway.

Newspapers are cheap. It think most of the decline of newspapers is already over. Now, it'll just be slow attrition as the newspaper generations die off.

Does it bother anyone else that a billionaire is buying all these newspapers to control the media?
