Now reaching new 'highs'.
90% of the Software in China is Pirated, even a Majority of the Government software (like MSoft OSs) is Bogus.

Their currency is 'pegged', not free-floating, preventing adjustments that are needed to keep/make USA jobs viable, etc.
(ie, should be 4, not 6.5 Yuan to the dollar)
This is Not an economic story as much as a political one.
This IS Chinese policy.

BEIJING (AP) -- At first, it looks like a sleek Apple store. Sales assistants in blue T-shirts with the company's logo chat to customers. Signs advertising the iPad 2 hang from the white walls.
Outside, the famous logo sits next to the words "Apple Store."

And that's the clue it's fake.

China, long known for producing counterfeit consumer gadgets, software and brand name clothing, has reached a new piracy milestone -- fake Apple stores.

An American who lives in Kunming in southern Yunnan province said Thursday that she and her husband stumbled on three shops masquerading as bona fide Apple stores in the city a few days ago.
She took photos and posted them on her BirdAbroad blog.

The three stores are not among the authorized resellers listed on Apple Inc.'s website. The maker of the iPhone and other hit gadgets has four company stores in China -- two in Beijing and two in Shanghai --
and various official resellers. Apple's Beijing office declined to comment.

The Proliferation of the fake stores underlines the slow progress that China's government is making in countering a culture of a rampant piracy and widespread production of bogus goods
that is a major irritant in relations with trading partners.

China's Commerce Minister promised American executives earlier this year that the latest in a string of crackdowns on product piracy would deliver lasting results.

The 27-year-old blogger, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the set-up of the stores was so convincing that the employees themselves seemed to believe they worked for Apple.

holy crap, talk about ballsy....whole stores?

I have to say the Apple stores, that pretty ridiculous and puts paid to any bs they tell us as to stamping oput piracy etc.


but look, they are now in the midst of some issues that IF they choose unwisely may set them back and crash portions of their economy.

this 9% growth is a cooked number and a mirage, they build mega malls and financial centers in towns that cannot support them and no one goes to, their stock market is a sham, the gov. interferes on the corp. side buying up co's that are ready to collapse re-capitalizing and nationalizing them, telling any former stock holders to pound sand etc etc....

Their banks under capitalization is worse than ours PRE Tarp.....their RE market is starting to trend down heavily....the gov. is in effect buying donw inflation...

Like ALL command economies, they live oin borrowed time, I would say becasue they had so far to come, therein lies the 'secret of their success' and the 15 year spike......lets see whats happen in the next 5, ..

I couldn't agree more, Trajan. The Chinese are flying high for the moment of something that is mostly illusion. Those fretting about it need to remember what happened, when everyone thought that "Japan. Inc" had all the right answers, and was poised to take over the world economically. I think we all remember what happened next, and the Chinese economy is far more of a hollow shell than that ever was.
