US lawmakers introduced a resolution Friday calling for the United States to give "substantial material and technical" aid to outgunned Syrian rebels fighting forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

Senators Robert Casey, a Democrat, and Marco Rubio, a Republican, unveiled the measure amid horror in Washington at a bloody crackdown on dissent in Syria, where rights groups estimate some 6,000 people have died in the violence.

The non-binding measure also "strongly condemns" Russia and Iran "for providing military and security equipment" being used by government forces in "mass atrocities against unarmed civilian populations in Syria.

Amid calls from some US lawmakers to consider arming the rebel forces, the measure urges President Barack Obama "to support an effective transition to democracy in Syria by identifying and providing substantial material and technical support, upon request" to anti-regime elements.

The aid should go to groups "that are representative of the people of Syria, make demonstrable commitments to protect human rights and religious freedom, reject terrorism, cooperate with international counterterrorism and nonproliferation efforts, and abstain from destabilizing neighboring countries."

The resolution "strongly condemns" the regime's crackdown, declares that Assad "has lost all claims to legitimacy due to the perpetuation of mass atrocities" against his people, and calls on him to step down.

So we're not allowed to support the rebels trying to overthrow an Arab dictator aligned with Iran???

We don't want to be a positive influence in who ends up running that country if it collapses? We wouldn't mind if Russia or Al Qaeda gets their puppet in power there?

You must think we live on another planet.

No, not like Libya & Egypt. We already put Al Qaeda/Islamists in power in those countries. Let's do something different instead. Let's mind our own bleepin business and let Syrians sort out Syrian problems.

Uh, Libya and Egypt are DIFFERENT than Syria.

1) Libya was a mistake, we should've taken out Qaddafi earlier on our own to make sure the terrorists didn't take over/win over the masses. Libya was no threat to us or Israel, but if we supported regime change then we should've done it quicker to make sure the right people won the country.

2) Egypt was a mistake too supporting the overthrow of our friend. Egypt has a pro-US military so they have mostly behaved better than the Syrians and we hope they will remain our friend despite the Muslim Brotherhood rising to power. Peace between them and Israel is all because of our connections with the Egypt military.

Syria a puppet of Iran, so we want that regime to fall. Also, they are a sworn enemy of Israel "right now" Egypt was friendly with Israel and Libya was no threat to Israel like Syria.

Also, there are WMDs in Syria that terrorists would love to get their hands on....but of course you probably have no problem with terrorists running around with WMDs.

I'm very disappointed in Marco Rubio on this. He seems to be selling out now. He's being co-opted and groomed by the corrupt old-guard Elite. It's sad.

"If you want a sense of what could well lie in store for Syria, go no further than Anthony Shadid’s report from Libya in the New York Times for February 9. Shadid, a good reporter, describes a dismembered country, rent by banditry:

“The militias are proving to be the scourge of the revolution’s aftermath.

"Though they have dismantled most of their checkpoints in the capital, they remain a force, here and elsewhere. A Human Rights Watch researcher estimated there are 250 separate militias in the coastal city of Misurata, the scene of perhaps the fiercest battle of the revolution. In recent months those militias have become the most loathed in the country..."

"It looks as though Syria might well be heading into civil war of a probable brutality and level of bloodshed far beyond what is transpiring in Libya – as veterans of Lebanon’s civil wars can attest."

Blowback. As usual, we'll regret this meddling too at some point. All those $Billions in Taxpayer Dollars spent on putting Al Qaeda/Islamists in power. What a mess.

It's pretty stupid to compare Libya and Egypt when they are different people in different parts of the world. Libya was no military power whereas Syria is a military threat to Israel.

But of course, since NC and NY are in the USA and closer in distance than Libya and Egypt....they must be the very same type of states. :cuckoo::eusa_whistle:

Fuck em all. Save the $Billions in Taxpayer Cash instead. You just spent your hard-earned money on the creation of two Al Qaeda/Islamist Hell-Holes. You got gipped again. You should be outraged and demanding your money back. I know i am.

In the 1950s it was Arab nationalists like Egypt's Nasser who posed the biggest threats to US strategic interests in the Middle East: Our oil under their soil. Our principle ally ever since that time has been fundamentalist Islam. From the Russian invasion of Afghanistan to the destruction of Yugoslavia to Libya, Syria and beyond, we consistently back the most reactionary Arab forces in the fight against meaningful Arab democracy.

Lebanon next?

The Military Industrial Complex loves this stuff. Americans just keep on enjoying being duped. A Permanent state of War was always the goal. New Al qaeda/Islamist regimes in Libya & Egypt are great for the Military Industrial Complex. Lots of future Wars to get us involved with there. Maybe one day Americans will stop being duped? Who knows? It could happen.

You're an idiot.

We don't support dictators killing innocent people, especially when those dictators are an enemy of our friends and are supported by Iran.

Lebanon....funny, we work with the LAF in Lebanon. We don't work with the Syrian military. :eusa_whistle:

We worked with the Egyptian military and hope they can keep the islamofascists from running their country. But you blame the US military for Egypt's problems when in fact we helped prevent major bloodshed there like in Syria.

FYI....Russia and Iran are the arms suppliers to Syria, so you should focus your hatred on them, not us trying to stop the massacre and possible loose WMDs.

Yeah, we're just so giddy about a new mess in the middle east when we have to deal with Iran. :cuckoo:

Idiots like you blame the US and ignore the true troublemakers in Iran, China and Russia.

Yeah ignore them....that's what we did with those terrorist camps run by UBL in Afghanistan.

Do you know what happened from those camps????

 The strongly worded letter. :doubt:

So we get to be the arms supplier. :eusa_shhh:

Rendering assistance is one thing I can agree with... Beyond that.... Good luck!!

And if it ever becomes economically impossible to project US force half a world away, we've still got Mexico. War slaves and debt slaves have never had it so good.

We supported Saddam Hussein when he murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent Iranians:

"Iraq invaded Iran, first attacking Mehrabad Airport of Tehran and then entering the oil-rich Iranian land of Khuzestan, which also has a sizable Arab minority, on 22 September 1980 and declared it a new province of Iraq.

"With the support of the Arab states, the United States, and Europe, and heavily financed by the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, Saddam Hussein had become 'the defender of the Arab world' against a revolutionary Iran."

Saddam Hussein - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Which country is still the greatest purveyor of violence on this planet?

After Mubarak, Egypt was taken over by terrorists. After Gaddafi, Libya was taken over by terrorists. Why is the US regime so interested in promoting terrorists taking over these middle eastern countries?

Only Al Qaeda/Islamists,Globalist Elites, and the Military Industrial Complex are benefiting from all this meddling. Ordinary American Citizens are continuing to suffer through this massive debt/massive poverty misery.
