Iran will not tolerate fall of Assad, establishes joint ‘war room’ with Syria, Hezbollah

Iran is escalating its threat to respond forcefully against outside interference in the Syrian conflict, despite already having 15,000 of its own troops inside Syria to help put down the rebellion that threatens the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Mashregh News, a media outlet run by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, reported in March that the Islamic republic’s armed forces have established a “joint war room” with both Syria and the terrorist group Hezbollah.

The trio aim to provide a coordinated response to any American aggression against Syria or Iran, which Mashregh News said would include counterattacking with missiles aimed at Israel and American assets in the region.

According to the Fars News Agency, Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a warning recently during his recent meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “The Islamic Republic will defend Syria,” FNA reported that message read, “because of its support for the resistance front against the Zionist regime [Israel], and is vehemently opposed to any intervention by foreign forces in Syrian internal affairs.”

Pentagon Ready to Help Protect Syrian People, Panetta Says
April 19, 2012 - U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told a congressional panel on Thursday that the Pentagon is providing "nonlethal aid" to the civilian-led opposition in Syria and that it is preparing additional measures if it becomes necessary to help protect the Syrian people.
Amid concern from some members of the U.S. Congress that the United States might be planning a military intervention similar to one in Libya last year, Panetta said there are similarities, but also important differences in the two situations. He testified before the House of Representatives' Armed Services Committee, saying the United States stands with the Syrian people. "Our policy towards Syria is very clear. We support a political and democratic transition that fulfills the Syrian people's aspirations," Panetta said. Panetta told the panel that the United States is sending "nonlethal" aid to the Syrian opposition, including communications and medical equipment. The Pentagon also is providing $25 million of humanitarian relief.

U.S. Army General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that so far, the U.S. military’s role has been limited to sharing information with regional partners. But he added: "Should we be called, our responsibility is clear - provide the secretary of defense and the president with options." The Republican chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Howard "Buck" McKeon, and the committee's ranking Democratic member, Adam Smith, said they are opposed to U.S. military intervention in Syria at this time. "On the other hand, there is much we do not know about the opposition. Syria also maintains robust air defenses that limit military options. Therefore, I am not recommending U.S. military intervention, particularly in light of our grave budget situation, unless the national security threat was clear and present," McKeon said.

Several lawmakers expressed concern that the White House is preparing to intervene in Syria militarily, similar to last year's Libya operation that some of them opposed, without first getting authorization from Congress. Republican Representative Randy Forbes put this question to Secretary Panetta: "It is your position that the [Obama] administration's position would be that we would have to get a consensus of permission from the international community before we would act, but that we would not have to get specific statutory authority from Congress before we would act?" Panetta said President Barack Obama would act in consultation with international partners, and in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, working with Congress.

Representative Smith said he keeps hearing that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's time in office might be coming to an end, but that Assad is still in power. Smith said he is concerned. "What is the path for that happening? Because as I said in my opening remarks, the Assad regime has sort of decided they don't care what the international community thinks - they are going to kill as many people as they need to kill to stay in power," he said. Panetta said that Syria is different from Libya in several important aspects. He said President Assad still appears to enjoy the support of a large segment of the Syrian military and that Arab countries are not lined up in support of military intervention. But Panetta said the intelligence community feels that the insurgency in Syria is so broad-based that Assad ultimately will be forced from office.

Clinton Calls for Tough Sanctions If Syria Ignores UN Peace Plan
April 19, 2012 - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called for tough U.N. sanctions to be imposed on Syria if it fails to implement a U.N.-backed peace plan aimed at resolving the country's year-long uprising.
Clinton made the call Thursday at a Paris meeting of top diplomats of more than a dozen nations who call themselves the "Friends of Syria" and support the Syrian opposition revolt against the autocratic rule of President Bashar al-Assad. Clinton said Washington believes the U.N. Security Council should adopt an arms embargo on Syria and impose travel and financial sanctions on Syrian officials in order to keep Mr. Assad "off balance." She also said such a resolution should be passed under Chapter Seven of the U.N. Charter, which authorizes measures, including military action.

Russia has twice used its Security Council veto to block Western and Arab proposals for sanctions on the Assad government, a key Russian ally. Clinton said she tried to persuade Russia to drop its objection to sanctions in a meeting earlier Thursday with her Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, in Brussels. She said Lavrov recognized that Syria is "not in a static situation but a deteriorating one." French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said the Friends of Syria believe the U.N.-backed peace plan drafted by international envoy Kofi Annan is the "last chance" for Syria to avoid a civil war. He said if the plan fails, the anti-Assad coalition will seek "other options" to deal with the Syrian crisis.

The United Nations said Syria signed a preliminary agreement for an expanded U.N. mission to monitor a shaky cease-fire in the government's conflict with rebels leading the uprising. A small group of unarmed U.N. soldiers began monitoring the truce earlier this week. The cease-fire took effect last Thursday, but fighting has continued across the country. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged the Security Council to quickly adopt a resolution expanding the observer team in Syria from about 30 to 300 personnel. He also called on Syria to cooperate with the monitors by ensuring their freedom of movement, including through the use of helicopters.

The U.N. chief described the situation in Syria as "highly precarious," citing recent reports of government shelling of civilian areas and attacks by armed opposition groups. Syrian rights activists said security forces and rebels fought in the eastern town of Deir el-Zour on Thursday. They also reported intense government artillery strikes on the opposition hub of Homs in central Syria.

Syrian Death Toll Climbs; Ships with Weapons Intercepted
April 28, 2012 - The death toll in Syria is again edging higher, this time following fighting between government and pro-democracy forces outside the capital.
Activists say 10 people died early Saturday in the region surrounding Damascus. Activists also warned of fighting in the Latakia region along the Mediterranean coast, but had no information on casualties. The fighting comes after two explosions rocked Damascus Friday, leaving at least 10 people dead. A Syrian government newspaper Saturday slammed U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accusing him of encouraging rebel attacks. The Associated Press says the Tishrin newspaper accused the U.N. chief of heaping his criticism on the government and not on rebel forces.

During a news conference in India Friday, the U.N. chief said he was "gravely alarmed" over Syria's rising death toll in spite of the government's repeated commitments to end violence. The U.N. estimates that more than 9,000 people have been killed in Syria's crackdown on the uprising, while activist groups put the death toll at more than 11,000. Meanwhile, Lebanese officials said Saturday they intercepted a ship that may have been trying to smuggle weapons to the Syrian rebels.

Officials said the Lutfallah II sailed from Libya and stopped in the Egyptian port of Alexandria before making its way to Tripoli. At least three shipping containers were removed from the ship. Officials said the containers had been loaded with shells, rockets, grenade launchers and other equipment. Reuters news agency quotes a White House spokesman as saying the United States is "disappointed" about Syria's failure to live up to the peace plan and will continue to "ramp up international pressure" against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton expressed concern about Syria's failure to abide by the cease-fire. Syria has said it will honor the truce and other elements of international envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan for the country, but will respond to attacks by foreign-backed "terrorists" it says are behind the 13-month opposition uprising. Only a handful of U.N. monitors are currently in the country as part of the cease-fire deal. They deployed Friday to hot spots of violence between government forces and rebels.

Syria is a puppet state of Iran.

Thats why the Hussein administration has backed off from overthrowing him.

Of all the governments in the middle east that needed to be overthrown (besides Iran itself), its been Syria all along. But our President's policy has been to create as much chaos in the ME as possible, by overthrowing the stable governments to replace them with Muslim Brotherhood radicals, and to keep Iran and its puppet state Syria in power.

Iran propping up Syria's dwindling cash reserves
May 21st, 2012 - Syria's president is quickly spending through his cash reserves as sanctions choke off many sources of funding, but the regime is getting help from Iran in bolstering finances, CNN has learned.
In Jordan, the government is accepting the reality that Bashar al-Assad may remain in power in Syria for months to come, aided by Iran. According to intelligence assessment shared with CNN, al-Assad likely had about $30 billion in cash reserves to spend when unrest and bloodshed began in March 2011. He's about down to $6 billion to $9 billion. And with the war against his own people costing him about $1 billion a month, he should have been out of business by the end of the year, according to officials in the region. But sources are also telling CNN that al-Assad is getting a cash infusion from Iran, funneled in through banks in Lebanon, and Iran's support combined with Russia's political and economic support could keep al-Assad going for months to come.

The assistance is just part of how Iran is helping Syria. As CNN reported earlier this year, Iran has provided further aid as part of what the officials described as "all-in" support for al-Assad, including small arms and assistance in helping the Syrian government use computer monitoring to rout out opposition using social media and other Internet tools. While troops from 19 countries, including the United States, have converged in Jordan for the Eager Lion military exercise, U.S. and Jordanian elite forces are doing additional training to prepare for potential fallout should Syria's government collapse. U.S. Army Green Berets are training Jordanian special forces in a number of so called "worst-case scenarios" including Syria's chemical and biological weapons falling out of the control of government forces, U.S. sources tell CNN.

The U.S., Jordan and other allies are worried that opposition forces or groups like al Qaeda could seize some partial control of 20 key chemical and biological sites inside Syria. U.S. intelligence officials have long said they believe Syria's chemical and biological weapons remain under the control of al-Assad's forces and there is little need to worry. Securing the sites would demand that outside ground forces land in Syria within 18 hours of any collapse to try to regain control, according to an assessment shared with CNN. The Jordanians believe that with al-Assad remaining in power, Jordan must plan and train its forces for any potential option. But the introduction of American special operations forces such as the Green Berets is seen as an indicator that the United States is prepared to help defend Jordan if it came to that.

Of course they won't, Assad is Irans battle buddy.

Russia has begun massing troops that will move through Georgia, into Armenia for staging through Iran's northern border. Russia has already said that they do not believe that Israel has the resources to defeat the Iranian defenses if they strike without aid from the U.S. This of course is in the event of a strike against Iran's nuclear facilities which may or may not coincide with some type of action agaisnt Syria.

"Iran is our neighbor," Rogozin said. "If Iran is involved in any military action, it's a direct threat to our security." Rogozin now is the deputy Russian prime minister and is regarded as anti-Western. He oversees Russia's defense sector.

I dont care what they do or dont tolerate. They arent calling the shots in the world.

No only that, but why do we care? Israel's military is superb and they can handle themselves. Plus, they have the money to fight another war. We, on the other hand, do not.

The U.S. nor Iran should intervene in Syria's affairs. However if Iran does, who gives a shit, let them, not our problem.

Iran, Hezbollah involved in Syrian ‘slaughter,’ Netanyahu charges
June 10, 2012 -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran and Hezbollah of being involved in the "slaughter" of civilians in Syria.
"We [see] what is happening in Syria where civilians are simply being slaughtered," Netanyahu said during Sunday's regular Cabinet meeting. "We see the horrifying pictures of children and the elderly. This is a slaughter that is being perpetrated not only by the Syrian government. Iran and Hezbollah are helping it, and today the world needs to see this axis of evil: Iran-Syria-Hezbollah -- the face of this axis of evil is fully revealed for what it is."

Nearly 100 civilians were killed this week in shelling by Syrian troops in the capital Damascus and throughout the country, according to reports. Thousands have been killed since the uprising began last year.

Vice Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz called the actions of the Syrian government a "genocide," and singled out Russia for criticism for providing Syria with arms.

Israeli President Shimon Peres on Saturday night as he left for the United States called on the world community to do more to stop the killings in Syria.

Hmm. . . you were bitching about our involvement in Libya. Hypocritical tard.

We will do nothing about Syria aside from funding the radical muslim brotherhood. At this point, that's doing little else but increasing the death toll on the Syrian people.

Russia is supporting Assad. When Her Highness Dutchess Hillary told them to stop, she was told to shut up or Russia will STOP selling attack helicopters to US, that we are using to give to the Afghanistan fighters. She shut up.

obama will not confront Russia. He won't do it. He is going to mexico to whine to Putin, IF, that is IF Putin even speaks to him. Since Putin refused to come to the G8 at Camp David, Putin might offer obama some toilet paper and told to wipe Putin's ass and that's the end of it.

The world knows we have this lightweight in the white house.
