Legalizing drugs is on the table in AMLO's quest for peace

Legalizing them is only going to create a larger market. And don't think for a minute that the existing cartels won't be supplying that market. They're not about to simply "disappear", they will just become legitimized.

We'll probably see more drug busts at the border too, with more people trying to bring drugs into this country.

Actually South of the Border already offers a catering service. It's called drug mules. You needn't travel any further than your local elementary school parking lot to find meth, coke or heroin. Since pot revenue disappeared, the cartels needed to switch up their courier service a bit.

But to the topic really, I think this is the President of MX being clever and sending a message to the US: "hey, legalize pot and we'll legalize heroin, then without our cooperation busting thugs at the border, watch your heroin overdoses put today's horrific rates to shame..." It's also a slap in the face to Canada's recent action.
