Walmart Versus U.S Economy: A Success Story

No to say no one has had problems, but I have shopped in Wal Marts all accross the country and have never had a problem in one.
All were clean and professional.

They are run much better than the republican party.

They also have a name for not paying slip-and-fall claims. That earns them a powerful enemy in the plaintiff's bar.

I wonder if that isn't where most of the bullshit you read about them comes from.

It's not just slip and fall claims. On all legal matters, they do a cost-benefit analysis. On paying a lot of their bills on time too, which hurts their vendors. They're Wal Mart, what are you going to do, turn down their business when they don't pay?

I wasn't aware of the vendor complaints, but looking at the way they keep the stores in my area, I can't say I'm surprised. I'm sure they are overworked, but hell who isn't?

I assumed the stance on slip and falls was due to the fact that they must be a juicy target for scammers. No?

Hell woman---you were in Arkansas--what did you expect ?

Hey, he had teeth and everything!
2 Questions:

Why were you shopping when you were pregnate with twins & on bed rest???

Why would you continue to shop there after being treated like that?

Can't remember what exactly I needed, but it was important enough to go when there was nobody else available obviously. I've posted it on the board before, but my ex left before my kids were born and I've never been the type to sit around and wait to be rescued. ;)

And who says I ever went back to that store? I didn't. In fact, it was a good year and a half before I went to any Wal Mart again, and that only because we'd moved to an area where there was nothing else readily available.

But it sticks as a reason to hate shopping there, even in a different physical location.

Sure, who has deeper pockets than Wal Mart? But there were issues with paying certain vendors, particularly for services like transport. They always got paid...eventually. Not every vendor can afford to wait, but what are they going to do realistically? Now to be fair this was several years ago, it may have changed.

Some companies really know what they are doing. Walmart works smart and everybody that wants to, benefits, in many ways.

FYI:

1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart Every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private Employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 Years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur At a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to Fix the economy.

Maybe we should see if WalMart can be prosecuted under RICO,

or it there is any muscle left in anti-trust laws.

Maybe WalMart should pay for the new health care legislation.

Employees don't need motivational rallys, they need a living wage pay check.

Two of the ten richest Americans are WalMart HEIRS who never did anything except pop out of a womb.

Ok, so I do not like WalMart or United Air Lines, this does not mean I am anti-business. Free-enterprise can help all of us. These are two bad apples in a big basket. I am an independent voter. I hope Republicans and Democrats will remember that!

If Wal mart is prosecued under RICO so should all mega corps.
Banks, oil companies, telcos, etc.

Actually has Wal Mart grown as the result of mergers and aquisitions or just expansion and competition?

Don't forget in a lot of rural areas they've driven the competition out of business with the artificially low prices they mysteriously raise once they're the only game in town. I hate Wal Mart, it's horrible to shop there. One day a cahsier even reached out and slapped my son for nothing, being a then three year old and reaching out and touching the bags.

I have a huge laundry list of complaints about Wal Mart, believe me. And all related to the shopping "experience" there. But when you're in an area where other than grocery items the choices are Wal Mart or drive an hour....let's just say the drive doesn't happen that often.

All right, vent over!

Reported her, tried my damndest to get her fired. It didn't work. And having worked at corporate HQ however briefly, I knew that particular tape was already shredded. Not much else I could do without the evidence.

Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit on this.

Either:

1 you're a crappy parent for not calling the cops and making a BIG deal out of it, or

2 You're full of shit.

Nobody - NOBODY - would ever strike 1 of my children without having hell rain down on them.

I'm not a huge WalMart fan, but I do shop there, but your responsibility as a parent is what I'm questioning. It doesn't matter where this allegedly occurred. It could have been WalMart, Target, or wherever. A parent that doesn't protect her children shouldn't have them.

If it were me, it would have been WalMart employees that called the cops, because I would be delivering the Mama Bear beatdown to ANYONE that dared touch my child.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, for whatever that's worth. Which is, of course, zero. But please, feel free to give your unsolicited opinion on the parenting skills of a person you know nothing about based on an edited recounting of an anecdote posted on a message board. I find it fascinating.

But but, armchair parenting is all the new rage!

No, I have no idea who the hell she is nor do I care. But let her speak. I'm sure whatever marvelous gems of unsolicited criticism she has to impart to a person she doesn't know from jack about the children she knows shit about and a situation described briefly in a post for a public board will be utterly amazing. I'm all ears. Seriously.

Wal-Mart is the world's best global supply chain, dominating the retail sector around the world.

While you may feel bad for the Wal-Mart workers making $19k a year, they're rich when compared with the Chinese workers manufacturing all those products for $5k a year.

Besides, where else will the people of Walmart go?

More BULLSHIT.

Of course you don't care what I say, that's why you responded. :clap2:

The fact remains, if your story is true you suck as a parent. Any parent that really cared for their child would jump in and MAKE SURE justice was done. That would include calling the cops, or as I would have done, jumping right in and doing the duty of a parent and PROTECTING THE CHILD.

I personally find it completely unacceptable that someone would ASSAULT my child and I would stand by and do nothing. So yeah, I stand by my initial reaction. You're either full of shit and just trying to make WalMart look bad or you suck as a parent.

So which is it? Have you not got the balls to protect your kids or are you full of shit trying to make WalMart look bad?

Honestly? I think you're a bitch jumping my ass and painting with a broad brush to try to make some sort of hack point that I fail to see. Because none of what you say makes any sense otherwise, except to prove the former and your crack about making Wal Mart look bad tells me it's not just 100% pure petty bitchery at work here. So spell it out, what's your point? 'Cause you're not making it.

Your avatar sure pointed me in the wrong direction about your politics!

There are those companies that I have had inside information on because people I know in Southern California worked for them. L. A. is the second largest city in the nation, so we do have a lot of corporate offices. I am no Wall Street type, but a lot of it is regularly in the local news here.

United Air Lines is so bad it makes me sick. Want to know what happened to TWA and Continental, pin down United for the facts. WalMart is so obvious just by walking in the front door.

Banks are a whole group that has been jumbled together unfairly. There are a lot of smaller firms that have been truly dedicated to their communities. This was true because of the individuals that ran them who had a true sense of citizenship in their communities. Bank of the West is frequently mentioned for their good works. The big banks are just money machines whose greed is moving our country into socialism so fast it is unbelievable. Chase is the big joke out here, apparently they can not add or subtract.

I think that when the history books are written, George Bush will take the blame for American socialism, and the unlikely President Barack Obama will be the one who tried to soften the blow to protect free enterprise. Oil companies, I hear good things about ARCO and Valero out here. Kroger used to be a model of labor/management relations, but I hear from a union steward that is changing due to market pressure from WalMart.

These things change so fast, but there are corporations who believe there are reasons for doing a good job in business beside money.
