Those of you who support the waiting period for purchesing a firearm may want to do some resurch on the effects of the waiting period on those who DO need the gun right away.

Just thought I would start a thread on this to keep the abortion thread from going any further off topic.

But but its to keep them out of the hands of criminals ... who by the way do not obtain them legally in most cases anyway.
Mexico has an anti gun law and look how peaceful it is there.

IMO anyone who thinks its a smart idea to purchase a firearm "legally" has rocks in their head.

Firearms laws have never worked. The only people with restricted access are law abiding citizens. The bad guys get their firearms the way that they always have; illegally.

I won't pay retail for something I can purchase out of hand at a reduced price from someone else.

Paying retail and purchasing legally are two separate issues.

I don't like to pay retail either, but I buy them all legally. Can't even imagine a scenario where I'd be tempted to buy one illegally.

Should have a waiting period for abortions too. All women should register their abortions as well.

While I'm not going to argue that waiting periods for buying handguns is a good thing, I do have to wonder why the people in the article didn't decide to buy a shotgun instead? Don't they usually have lesser or no waiting periods?
