Last night President Trump flipped one more time. Anyone who listened last night heard once again the same rhetoric we heard from Nixon and G. W. Bush before they sent our troops into harms way, and too many died or were seriously injured in a war of attrition.

HIS strategy is his alone, he tired to have the Generals take responsibility and they in mass made it his decision. Thus he is now responsible for the 16 year war in Afghanistan. Trump will have no one to blame now, but himself (something he will never do)!

They are saying he actually listened to the Generals. Maybe thats why MAttis was praising him the other day.
Im kinda torn on this.
Do we want another Iraq? Of course not.
Do we want troops there? Of course not.
What do you do?

Nice of you to wash GWB clean at the same time you washed your asshole buddy Obama of his 8 years of dithering.

Hack.

What specific "rhetoric" are you referring to?

It's not his strategy, it's his decision to pursue or not pursue the strategy proposed by U.S. Military Command, if Donald Trump were the one formulating military strategy we'd be deep fucking trouble and as CIC he was responsible for the conduct and outcomes of the war in Afghanistan on the day he was sworn in.

Let me correct that for you:

"Thus he is now responsible for winning the 16 year war in Afghanistan."

You're welcome.

BTW, Nixon ended the Vietnam War. He didn't win it but he did end it.

Winning is better than losing, and after almost 16 years of our troops fighting, people who volunteer nowadays know what they are getting into.

Guess we have to raise taxes to implement any common Offense or general warfare.

Leave and let them kill each other. Fuck Afghanistan fuck its people. No one there is worth one American life. Contain the Luther fuckers. Drone every one that pops up on TV, but mostly ignore them.

It does appear that he was listening to his Military Commanders and from what I can glean from the scant details Trump provided it appears that they were telling him that they believed that ultimately the Afghan Security Forces were the key but that they needed more resources to get them to where they need to be. Along with that it appears that Trump wants to diminish the U.S role in nation building by finding strategic partners (India) to take up more the efforts while at the same time chastising Pakistan for its role in aiding the opposition in Afghanistan (IMHO risky given the enmity that exists between India and Pakistan).

All in all this doesn't appear to be a radical divergence from the strategy pursued during the Obama Administration just a modification of it.

Do we want another Iraq? Of course not.

His major theme appears to be avoiding another Iraq by not summarily withdrawing and leaving a power vacuum. If you're going to do that, having less troops in Country is more dangerous to our personnel on the ground than having more. I would suggest that giving our Military Command the resources that they say they need to achieve the objective(s) they've been tasked with is probably the best bet given that they're the ones that actually know what they're doing.

I guess we'll see how this works out over coming months.

Demand that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and African nation states engage the Taliban, ISIS and Goko Haram, kill, arrest or incarcerate its members or let them continue to kill without any aid from our country.

Go back to Bush and Obama. The generals said the exact same thing and what have we gotten from these Afghan people? I think they call it blue on blue violance? Fuck them. No reason to be there at all.

Are you suggesting that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the "African nation states" send troops into Afghanistan in order to facilitate a U.S. withdrawal ?

If so, you must be taking the same drugs as the OP since that would be an open invitation for direct military intervention by every country in the region including Pakistan, India, China and Russia, are you hoping for a general war to break out in Southern Asia?

First you have to define winning!
Something that has not been done in the last 17 years. Face it, Trump stabbed his base in the back. If we wanted endless war McCain would be President

FLIP FLOP is THE NEW NARRATIVE.
Doubtful you even watched the speech.
You are going on IGNORE.
People keep rebutting your bullshit about the latest 'FLIP FLOP" strategy and you keep pushing the nonsense.

Sell War Bonds, and with every $100 dollars invested the investor gets a flag pin for his/her money.
