'W. Bank fires may be settler payback'

I still see no link to the original story, just to the Jpost home page.

Burning olive trees seems exceptionally stupid. The tree is able to produce fruit for hundreds of years. There have been false accusations of this forever. No clue as to why it would be done, what is to be gained by it. Maybe the point is to make Jews look stupid and short sighted. Since the Jewish settlers have been the ones doing most of the work on making the land productive, this business of burning olive trees seems counter to facts on the ground

Actually, it fits the facts on the ground exactly.

Since the Jewish settlers have been the ones doing most of the work on making the land productive

Prove it PF. Just calling someone a liar does nothing for you.

Before Israel, Palestine was self sufficient. It produced a surplus of food that was exported.

Along comes Israel, now we have two countries on welfare.

Where is that productivity?

Proof I said. You are the one calling liar.

Prove it. You are asking others to prove your calling of a lie.

Come on PF...

Israel has depended on subsidies for over a hundred years. It has always existed on the mooch.

Palestine required no foreign aid until Israel came along.

That's not proof. Don't you know how to actually prove your words? You call people liars without any proof.

Sorry PF. Your words do not cut the ice as proof.

Do you need history lessons?

Go to school.

No, you just call people liars with no proof and expect it to be seen as factual. I want to see the proof. You have none.

OK.

No it isn't. You call liar and can not prove it and now you are pretending that I need to inform myself.

With what you can't find.

 OK PF.

Have a good morning. I'm done.

A New York Times examination of public records in the United States and Israel identified at least 40 American groups that have collected more than $200 million in tax-deductible gifts for Jewish settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem over the last decade.

He added that while the private donations could not sustain the settler enterprise on their own, “a couple of hundred million dollars makes a huge difference,” and if carefully focused, “creates a new reality on the ground.”

Most contributions go to large, established settlements close to the boundary with Israel that would very likely be annexed in any peace deal, in exchange for land elsewhere. So those donations produce less concern than money for struggling outposts and isolated settlements inhabited by militant settlers. Even small donations add to their permanence.

Jewish "settlers" who have lived in and ruled in Israel for 3000 years.

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Writer Charles Krauthammer...
Israel is the very embodiment of Jewish continuity: It is the only nation on earth that inhabits the same land, bears the same name, speaks the same language, and worships the same God that it did 3,000 years ago. You dig the soil and you find pottery from Davidic times, coins from Bar Kokhba, and 2,000-year-old scrolls written in a script remarkably like the one that today advertises ice cream at the corner candy store.

And are still living on the mooch.

Israel Venture Capital: The Silicon Valley of the East :clap2:
Israel, more fondly nicknamed as the “Silicon Valley of the East”, is the largest recipient of United States venture capital, absorbing 7.7% of outbound investment dollars. For a small and relatively new country, Israel has jumped into the limelight as one of the largest producers of new technologies. The country is responsible for some of the most prominent inventions over the past several decades, including drip irrigation, instant messaging (ICQ), Intel’s Centrino computer chip, and voicemail technology.

Israel also holds the second greatest number of foreign companies on the NASDAQ, second only to Canada. Some of the more prominent multi-billion dollar corporations listed on the exchange include TEVA Pharmaceuticals (market cap: $41 billion), the world’s largest generic drug manufacturer, and Gilead Sciences (market cap: $43 billion), which develops therapies for viral diseases, infectious diseases, and cancer.

In 2008, over $2 billion was invested in 480+ Israeli high-tech companies, an increase of 18% over the prior year. Roughly 50% of funds came from outside of Israel, primarily from the United States, which has also shown significant investment in Israel by building Israeli satellite offices for American companies. In 1974, Intel chose Israel as the location for its first design and development center outside the United States, and thereafter opened 8 locations, employing over 5,300 employees. International companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Nokia, and Motorola have also followed in the footsteps of Intel Corporation by opening offices in Israel.

More mooch.

:clap2:
Since the early 1990s, the Israeli venture capital industry has prospered and reached a prominent position in the world, possibly second only to the US with the total capital raised to date in excess of US$10 billion. By 2008, there were about 80 VC funds operating in Israel, with the total capital raised at US$10.6 billion (much of this originating from foreign investors, mostly from the US and Europe) and investments made in more than 1,000 Israeli start-up companies. Many of these start-ups went through successful initial public offerings (IPOs), and since the 1980s, more than 200 Israeli companies went through an IPO in NASDAQ with dozens more traded on various European exchanges. Israel currently has more companies listed on NASDAQ that any other nation outside North America (USA and Canada).

The growth of the VC industry in Israel has turned the country into one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world in terms of commercial R&D. Many of the global leading technology companies like IBM, Motorola, Intel, Microsoft, Cisco, HP, Applied Materials, Google and others have established R&D centres in the country
