Volunteers from 22 countries, including Turkey, will attend a high-spirited simultaneous event on May 9 to clean up the Mediterranean Sea -- both the coastline and water -- with the objective of marking a noteworthy change on the earth.

International civic movement “Lets' Do It,” which was founded in Estonia in 2008, is the organizer of this tremendous event. The movement has announced through its “Let's Do It” Mediterranean campaign that they are aiming for 1 million volunteers so that they can get closer to actualizing their goal of creating lasting universal change by 2018 with the contribution of 350 million people involved globally.

Talking to Today's Zaman, activist Ivar Tamm, who is responsible for the public relations of the “Let's Do It” Mediterranean campaign, said: “The initial plan is that if at least one million people participate in actions around the Mediterranean, it can already change local policies and help in many ways to make the Mediterranean much cleaner because it always has a sort of snow ball effect. It starts slowly but afterwards it will change the local policies and habits of many citizens in different countries.”
