Three Marines and a Navy hospital corpsman in New York responded Oct. 29 to a call from the NYPD for help. First responders and residents were trapped by rising waters and a residential blaze as Hurricane Sandy came ashore. Sgt. Allan D. Donaire, maintenance management chief, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., and Sgt. Jorge S. Negron, communications technician, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., both from 6th Communications Battalion located in Brooklyn, N.Y., recounted the events in an interview Nov. 2. Imagery in video is file footage of the destruction and recovery across New York and New Jersey.
