I am building a new desktop and this one I put a evga gforce 285 gt 1000 and at the time It cost 450 bucks what i want advice on is it really necessary to spend that much this time on just graphics (not to say graphics are just graphics) I play first person shooters and play with photo shop
any suggestions?

Depends. Are you looking at playing the latest games on the highest settings? You'll want something state-of-the-art -- i.e., hideously expensive.

If you can live with a lower frame rate and fewer polygons, you can go cheaper.

As Mr H said, Photoshop doesn't care about your graphics card. What it does need is lots of RAM, especially if you're using filters on high-resolution images.
