Everywhere, simultaneously.
On April 16th, 1945, Marshal Zhukov began the assault on the Nazi capital of Berlin with overwhelming Soviet forces.

By April 25th the city was fully encircled by the Red Army.

On the 30th the Reichstag, the house of Hitler's puppet legislature, was captured and the Soviet flag was raised above it.

After the news of the end of his 'Thousand Year Reich' Hitler commits suicide, ten days after his 56th birthday.

On May 2nd, Berlin surrenders.

On May 9th, sixty years ago today, two days after Col. Gen. Jodl signs the unconditional surrender of Germany, and one day after the American's declare their V-E day, the Soviets, in possession of the enemy capital, declare victory over Nazi Germany.

After four years and the deaths of some 27 million Soviets, 'the Great Patriotic War' is finally over.

From June 1941 on the USSR engaged never less than 70% of Germany's ground forces, and a high percentage of its air force as well.

It killed 1000 German soldiers PER DAY for over 1400 days.

The immortal bravery and sacrifice of the USSR warriors and people should not be diminished by the gross ignobility of their government prior to and after the war against Germany.

SALUTE! forever.

Excellent! But geesh...instead of 400000 seperate, smaller medals...maybe 5 or 10 BIG medals?

:D

Zhukov might not have been 20 years old when he joined the Army, enlisting,
or being drafted, as a buck private.

He rose to be the highest ranking general in the biggest, best army there ever was.

If anyone ever deserved all his medals, Zhukov did.
