December 26, 2009 - Singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt died on Christmas Day. He was 45. According to The New York Times, he had been in a coma induced by an overdose of muscle relaxants.

The performer, based in Athens, Ga., lost the use of his legs following an auto accident when he was 18. The accident, and his ongoing bouts with depression, transformed him into a dark, brooding writer whose work has been compared to Flannery O'Connor and William Faulkner.

Very sad that we lost a local talent and legend on Christmas Day. So sad he took his own life due to Holiday Depression....a malady that plagues many at this time of year (including me).

May God take him into His Heavenly Kingdom and relieve him of his pain and burdens, and may Vic rest in peace.

    Jen
