I have installed and am going through the testing phase of vBChat. This will allow real time chat and users can create and meet in their own rooms. This is still moderated and users can easily be banned by groups and/or username.

You will see a link to vBChat across the top navigation bar, and who's online in the chat rooms at the bottom of the forum.

Again, right now the chat system is turned off, but I plan on turning it on once I test it out thoroughly.

I wanted to get a feel for members opinions on this. Thoughts?

I think it's a great idea--it may help keep conversations on track and debating proceed faster!

We could create Debate Contests where contestants could debate in real time with a vote afterward to see who is perceived as the winner....

We'll have to see how it is used, it might make some of the extemporaneous side comments in threads take a sideline to chat....

From what I've seen of it on other boards... either one portion or the other will suffer.. People will cease posting, and just argue in chat, or chat will get no use, in favor of what people are used to, which is posting.

Here may be different... who knows.

Chat features are sometimes not as useable as posting is (work, firewalls, etc) Seems both may have value.

I've seen that on other boards, and I think it's great.

People tend to use the regular board as a chat room when there are 2 or 3 on one topic. It will probably decrease post numbers but eliminate a lot of the "me too" and "f@#@$" you types of posts.

i think its would be a good idea. some times taking something to a chat might be a better idea than clogging up the server with wasted space

Yahoo chat eh? It can get real nasty in there from time to time...and cliques form quickly...but it also can be fun dodging! :2guns:

i know what it is, but i dont see this one going that direction. yahoo sucks ass for the most part. best thing they have the the one gig email now. but the chat room are full of nothing but bots and porn adverts.

on a board like this bots would be easy to pinpoint and ban the account. unlike yahoo who doesnt really care to ban them. they get banned form one room they move then to another. or leave and come back in. they arent very thorough.

I'd be willing to try the chat......just doesn't seem like I'm around when everyone else is so I'd be talking to myself!

I like the message board format because I can read what everyone said while I was away, and then I can comment when I get a chance. I think I'll miss out on a lot when the chat opens up.

Good luck!

What I want to know is why all these old-timers suddenly started flooding the board? Did ya'll get banned from a chat room perchance and now you want to continue your chats here?

Chat rooms suck, imo.
