Utah Repeals Fornication Law – Sex Outside Of Marriage Now Legal

Really? Wow ! Who would have thought that such a law would still be on the books? I found this interesting for a couple of reasons.

The law was passed in 1973! When the sexual revolution was already in full swing. Maybe that is why it was passed

Secondly, some conservative Republicans, ( and maybe Democrats- the article does not break it down) Opposed the measure. Apparently they have not gotten the memo about legislating morality

Good News For Fornicators: Utah has joined the 21st century and repealed a law making sex outside of marriage a crime.

WGN TV reports:

The Utah State Legislature is making sex outside of marriage legal.

In a bill cleaning up Utah’s criminal code, lawmakers repealed the misdemeanor crime of fornication. The House passed Senate Bill 43 on a 41-32 vote. It previously passed the Utah State Senate and now goes to Gov. Gary Herbert for his signature or veto.

We'll see what the governor does with it. I don't know his party affiliation

Utah is 75% Mormon, so it's hardly surprising there was some opposition to this in the legislature.
