Listening to CNN they just announced the Supreme Court has thrown out the pledge case, w/o comment.

"...one nation, under God, indivisible...."

"The court said the atheist could not sue to ban the pledge from his daughter's school and others because he did not have legal authority to speak for her.

The father, Michael Newdow, is in a protracted custody fight with the girl's mother. He does not have sufficient custody of the child to qualify as her legal representative, eight members of the court said."

This doesn't necessarily end the debate or the issue.

Ok, so CNN got it wrong about the w/o comment. Guess I'm really not surprised. I figured he would have a problem with that, considering the daughter didn't want him doing so.

So nothing is decided.

Very strange. Why did it take the Supreme Court to decide the father's status regarding the custody of his daughter? Seems to me that should have been decided several levels lower.

I too think that it's interesting that they didn't really decide the issue of the constitutionality of the pledge/"under god" statement, but dodged that issue altogether.

What's even more interesting is that his daughter has said that she BELIVES IN GOD.

The mother needs to get her AWAY FROM THAT RADICAL ATHEIST so he can no longer shouve is foul pegan beliefs down her throat.

The guy as stated doesn't have custody of her, but you know civil battles are brutal. Especially ones involving children. This guy sounds like a lunatic. I can see why the mother has custody.

Bottomline is that this does not promote anyone religion. IT simply states under God. It acknowledges God as a being. For those that don't believe, you don't have to speak the pledge. You have every right to write a note to the teacher and say "My child does not have to speak the pledge of Allegiance."

This country has a much bigger problem then just this issue. we are always catering to the minority. The majority rule does not apply because if one person is offended, it can be brought to the highest court in the land regardless of the millions of people that do said action without feeling offended by what they are doing.

Why do we cater to the minority and not the majority? Every voice can be heard but why should the voice of the few speak for the voices of the many?

Yeah... elsewhere in Yahoo news I read that while this guy is a staunch atheist, he claims to be an ordained minister also! What the hell is that about?

Aaah - Jeff - he's a lawyer. I think that pretty much explains it.
