USMB becoming unusable

Adobe Flash has been blocked because it's out of date
If Adobe Flash isn't working or you're encountering the "Adobe Flash has been blocked because it is out of date" error message on your computer, check that you're on the latest version of Chrome and that Flash is up to date to unblock the plugin.

Flash is not supported on Chrome for Android devices, iPhones, iPads, and other mobile devices.

Step 1: Turn on PPAPI plugins.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the address bar at the top, type chrome://plugins and press Enter.
  3. Click Details.
  4. Scroll down to "Adobe Flash Player."
  5. Under "Type: PPAPI," click Enable.
Step 2: Make sure Chrome is up-to-date. You get Adobe Flash player on Chrome automatically, and it updates when Chrome does.

Step 3: Update Adobe Flash Player manually.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the address bar at the top, type chrome://components and press Enter.
  3. Under "pepper_flash," click Check for update.
Plugins that use NPAPI, including Silverlight, Java, and Unity, won’t work.

Information for administrators
Critical vulnerabilities have been discovered in Adobe Flash Player. They're already part of exploit kits. The latest Chrome version already contains the necessary updates. If Chrome automatically updates (recommended) in your organization, there is no further action necessary. If however, for any reason you have manually disabled updates, and the Flash version is determined to be unsafe, users will begin seeing flash content blocked by default and see an infobar prompting them to update. We determine the severity of this vulnerability to be serious enough to warrant this action.

As an administrator, you could choose to suppress this blocking by default and infobar message by using the AllowOutdatedPlugins policy. However this is strongly discouraged and our recommendation is to update Chrome to the latest version.

With FIrefox, Flash was causing major headaches for me on every web page, lots of stalling and slow script warnings. Hence, I went into the add-ons page in Firefox and set Flash to "Ask to activate". No more problems now.

Update (reinstall) Adobe Flash with the newest version then run updates for your OS if it isn't already done then install the Adblocker Plus extension (add-on), restart your browser and you should be fine. If not then there's a software conflict somewhere between the site software and your browser or you're infected.

This is the only site I have troubles with. It is suppose to be for entertainment. Having to protect myself against the site and adding programs really is not what I consider helpful or entertaining.

Add to that most people seem to be blocking adds, what is the point of having ads? This whole route needs some serious rethinking.

What browser are you using? I use Chrome with the AdBlock add-on, and it works great.
Its not the ads. if he is having the same problem I am. My computer calls it a "Shock wave" crash. Which gives you screen freeze or screen shake. Another problem with it is it auto scrolls to the top of the page while you are posting.

If you disable your "Flash player" the problem goes away.

"a "Shock wave" crash."

We had a question like this the other day and I also responded like you, like I am now also.

I had to disable Shock Wave, this solved the situation, it only occurred at this forum, Shock Wave is a monster.

When I log on in the early morning hours, 2 - 3 AM, everything is fine. But I just logged in a 3:22 PM and I'm having intermittent trouble. So it seems the problem is related to traffic volume.

At a certain time each day, it seems to be forum maintenance, that takes about 20 minutes, then when the forum maintenance is completed, everything's fine.

Aside from that, sometimes things seem to take a bit longer to load, this could be a combination of ad's or as you say general traffic volume.

I really don't get these problems some are having; I've been screwing off here for several years, and have never had a problem, and the only software I use is my browser and a couple of add ons. Just stay away from those Russian porn sites and Facebook, already; you're just picking up crap from other sites that screw with your cache and browser.

Adblock Plus is available for both FireFox and Chrome. If you're using MS-anything, that's your fault. :p

I am currently blocking 8 ads on this site and had no idea they even existed until seeing this thread. lol

My current problem is some of the adverts also force center the page at the top and prevent you from scrolling down. If the idea is to raise revenue and NOT drive people away I would suggest the admin stop creating ads that prevent us from reading the board.
I'm having the same problem. So bad I had to quit USMB and go with another forum all afternoon. I thought it was all over for USMB and I logged on tonight to see if it's working. So far it looks okay but I don't know about tomorrow.

I did email the admin yesterday. I received a message received notification, but that's it.

PS: I don't want to say I'm glad to see someone else is having the same problem. But I am glad to know I'm not the only one, which is what I'd thought for the whole day. Now that we know it's a common problem it's a matter of time until they work it out. Everything seems to be okay now, so let's hope it stays that way.

I have had problems here from day one that i never had on other forums....quite a nuisance...I left for awhile but this is one of the better boards as in the moderators are not so prone to ban folks like other boards who will ban you if they just do not like your politics.

The glitches seem to get worse for me as a thread gets longer...i do not like the arrow things at all...so my summation is that this is a good board with a bad format.

I agree with all you've said about the positive aspect of this board. It is superior to most others in that the moderators leave us pretty much alone and the traffic moves fast.

The recent problems were a bit much to deal with and I was driven away for a few days, too. But I'm pleased to say everything seems to be back to normal now and I hope it stays that way.

I use Safari with AdBlock and I don't see any of the ads anymore. I also have Chrome on my computer but I don't use it here, I like Safari better for this site. I used to get all the ads when we first switched to this new software, but someone here suggested I download AdBlock and it took care of the problem for me. I have never had the problem described by OP.
