This bill would eliminate birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Current U.S. law automatically recognizes any person born on American soil as a natural born citizen. Under the bill, only children with at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen, a legal permanent resident, or an undocumented immigrant serving in the military would be considered citizens. Do you support this bill, if so tell your congress.

I don't know what to think about this, froggy. On one hand anchor babies do seem to reward people who are here illegally. But on the other hand, why punish the children and subsequent generations for the sins of the parents?

We're all (or almost all) descendants of immigrants here. I'm not sure I like the thought that we should have to prove our ancestors' basis for citizenship other than birthright. I'm wondering how many of us could.

Not granting citizenship to a baby is not "punishing" it.

We have a serious problem with illegal immigration. It costs us billions of dollars that are best spent elsewhere. Eliminating anchor babies is an easy step to take.

I would have a hard time in penalizing a new born for the actions of the parent or parents, nor would I do it. If one or both of the parents comes here illegally, then THEY, should be liable for the consequences by law at the least. But that opens another issue, depriving the new born of one or both of it's real parents.

When they come here illegal there shouldn't be a reward for it.

This bill is sponsored by a Republican. It has 86 cosponsors, all but one are Republicans.

Does anyone need another reason to oppose it?

How exactly is a baby born to illegal parents being penalized if we do not grant it citizenship?

There is no penalty imposed on the child or on future generations as some other idiot stated.

If an illegal has a child in this country, not only should they all be deported but they should be made to pay any and all medical costs. If they don't deport them until the kid has entered school, then the illegals should be made to reimburse the state, town or municipality for the cost of educating their illegal child.

Illegal immigration imposes great financial stress on towns, cities, states and the entire country.

It is a cost we can ill afford to bear any longer.

Making them go home is 'punishment?'

Then it's the parents punishing the kids by coming here illegally- they should lose any chance of ever becoming citizens.

I don't see this as a punishment to the child. Why should the child be given citizenship simply because the parents were here illegally when the child was born?

I would not think that the child should be deported at birth, but I do not believe citizenship should be granted either.

Stop rewarding wetbacks for breaking the law.

I am.

Republicans are Evil.

If you love your country, hate Republicans

Using the birth of a child on American soil to "anchor" parents who have come in illegally, have no intention whatsoever of becoming US citizens but who still want all the perks of citizenship at the expense of people who are citizens and taxpayers should not be an option. Being a Democrat or Republican has nothing to do with anything. Being an American who loves his/her country and wants to protect America has everything to do with it.

As one example, one of the primary aims of La Raza is to retake California as Mexican territory. For my part, all things considered, I say put up borders along the Arizona, Nevada and Oregon state lines and let them have California - and its weirdos, wackos, financial problems and everything else that's wrong with California. Hell, let Mexico deal with it and relieve the rest of the country of the burden.

By the way, our newest Justice Sotomayor was or still is an active member of La Raza.

You sound like a racist. Is racism behind your wish to segregate California?

California is my native state... don't even think about it in that manner!

Despite their current faults, they are still Americans.

I'm far from being racist. Not all Californians are idiots or unAmerican. But I do think many of California's problems could be alleviated if it's citizens would rethink a good number of all it's "I wants," "I deserve free ..." None of us can have it all. I find it absolutely unconscionable that a group of Californians can shut down water resources to an entire valley that provides a huge amount of food to everyone, destroys livelihoods of thousands of farmers who have owned and worked that land for generations, consequently destroying a part of the economy as a whole, because a few assholes want to save some damned minnows. Everything in life cannot be free because it's a "right." Nothing is free - there's always an underlying cost. When every citizen and every service and every entity has been taxed right down to the lint in their pockets ... everyone will eventually be broke. Period. When there's no money left to be taxed, no commerce, no nothing left ... how the hell do you continue financing all this stuff? You can't. That's what socialism will get you - it eventually breaks your purse, your back and your willpower.
