Judging by the number of posts this is a much bigger disaster than Katrina. Which begs the question, why isn't Bush doing anything about the rep system?

I think it has to do with the "fact" that Bush doesn't care about MessageBoarders, it's Techism!

I *thought* negative rep points were to be used sparingly, and to express your disapproval of the tenor of someone's post, not so much of the poster or their opinions. If people are negative-repping others just because they don't like them, that would seem wrong, and perhaps neg. rep points are a problem.

On the other hand, I don't see anything wrong with people giving positive points to someone for posting an article they especially liked, or a well-written original piece, etc.

I was a moderator on a board that had a somewhat different type of points system, but like here, awarded by other members. Two people complained that unless everyone had equal points, some would "feel bad". Sounded kind of like psychological Socialism. Niot that that is what the problem is here, as I think we are all grown up enough here to not need that type of coddling.

If part of the sytem isn't working, address that, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Rumor has it that Bush has appointed Jimmy to deal with this issue on a local level. When he succeeds I'm sure he will receive the Congressional Medal of Rep for his accomplishment !

You can just pm some one. The rep system was a game for some people
(not me of course). I will not miss it at all.

0 rep would be the same as negative rep IMO.
Says that none agree with you. The only way I would want to keep
good rep is if you can't see a "rank" or how many points one has.

Agreed---heck-If ya like a post just respond favorably too it. Since the "ranking" system cannot be accurately relied on, it should be dumped--It just gives folks false impressions.

So I search out there most recent post and try and rep them.
"you must first spread some more rep" ....OK!
Then I'll pull up the member list and sort by rep (or posts) and find
members who are no longer active posters, search their posts and rep them
till I can rep desired person.

Yes I admit, I have abused the rep system.
How many of you have???
All the more reason to get rid of it.

I see how that happens though.
I've tried to rep many times and can't cuz, ya got ta spread er around...well that's a flaw, as far as I'm concerned..If there are 10 people on the board and only 4 with anything reasonable to say IMO, why do I have to give rep to someone I don't agree with?
That's why I seldom give rep..Not because I don't want too, but because the system won't let me,
and I won't give rep just to make things work.

Like I said on page 1 (I think) I really don't care if we have it or not..
