USA in decline?

We need a strong and healthy working and middle class. We also need to treat our "free trade" partners with the same ambivalence that they treat us. China has a 25% tariff on everything we import into their country. Turnabout is fair play. Rigged trade is not free trade.

The ship is being turned around now. Getting health costs under control and getting people off welfare to get medicaid, bringing back the nonrich, will put us back on top. Thanks for nothing, the stupidest wars ever, and the depression and congressional paralysis only for lust for power to steal again, greedy/incompetent pubs and stupid dupes...

The "way" liberal gov't get costs under control: kill off the people that paid into it, after promising them the moon. It will happen with Obamacare: kill off the elderly by delaying/denying healthcare based on "efficiency models". That way you take care of the social security problem at the same time. The rest of the people are stuck with sub-par health care while the "rich" pay for people to attend medical school and become their "private" physicians (none of that specialized care for you, middle class). Look up history, and know that it repeats itself.

I agree with Big Black Dog. There are too many Americans wanting something for free, living off the government and not respecting what this country once was. Americans used to find what work they could to feed and take care of their families. Now, too many are willing to take Unemployment insurance, food stamps and welfare until the best job comes along, if ever.

Tonight...someone on the so called fair and balanced channel said that in 93, 1 in 33 workers was on disability. Today it is 1 in 15. I find those numbers hard to believe.

If they are true...and the assertion was it was a big scam.....I think we need to clean that up bigtime.

So many people have exhausted UE benefits and have been forced to turn to SS for income

I blame voodoo and Reaganism- Taxes too low, pandering to the rich, failure to invest in infrastructure and education/training. Myopic selfish Pubs and dupes/haters.

"The British journalist Ed Luce, whose book Time To Start Thinking is subtitled America In The Age Of Descent, argues that its failure to invest in infrastructure, research and education has been hugely damaging.

He told me: "The American dream no longer exists. If you compare income mobility, for example, you're twice as likely to move up an income group - up a class - in Canada or Germany as you would in the US.

"You're as likely to move up a class in Britain, and Britain's at the bottom of the league. It's got to stop these trends; otherwise it'll cease to be the America we admire; and I think it's to a large extent already ceasing, or has ceased, to be the America we admire.

Whether the United States is in decline is a complex issue. The likely answer is multifaceted. Political, social, or religious analysis of American identity query the appropriate size, their economic status may be the most appropriate. The economic strength has been in American power and the fulcrum of its entire history, a fundamental shift of the elements of American identity, may mean that a sustained global hegemony or decreasing the "sphere of influence".

The world is in decline and there is no human leader of any ideology that can do a thing about it other than put on the brakes or grease the skids.

And all along I thought there were European country's that embraced socialism that were doing great?

The world has been in decline since the beginning of the industrial revolution. We do not have infinite resources but western civilization is still acting otherwise.

You are a lying sack of shit. 25% of all goods & services in all of human history were produced in just the last 10 years.

You idiots always make me laugh when you say we don't spend enough on education.

You idiots always make me laugh when you post graphs with no explanation..

If the title of the graph and the sentence below it aren't enough of an explanation for you, I doubt there is anything else I can add that would help you...

But it goes deeper than that, and you know it....

ie: There was bugger-all being spent in the 1920s per gdp...gee, wonder why that was. Did everybody get an education? Was schooling compulsory back then? I could go on - and that is only one aspect.

As I said, no explanation...
