The US Senate on Saturday passed by a 90-1 vote a non-binding resolution insisting that the United States prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and ruling out any strategy aimed at dealing with a nuclear-armed Iran.

The only senator to vote against the resolution was Republican Rand Paul, a Tea Party and libertarian favorite, who argued that it was a de-facto declaration of war.

Apparently the Israeli government is not the only government that doesn't trust Obama to take effective action to prevent Iran from acquiring nukes.

They need to prove Iran's nuclear program has been weaponized before discussing about what we should do.

Any understanding of what "non-binding' means at all?

No, they don't. Iran needs to open up all their facilities to prove they are not trying to build nukes. And Obama needs to start taking effective action to force Iran to either open up their programs or blow up their programs or the US will lose all control over events.

It means this is the opinion of 90 US senators and if Obama is reelected and fails to follow this demand, he may well see an amendment requiring strong action tacked on to every bill that crosses his desk and probably House and Senate resolutions supporting an Israeli attack.

So you don't believe in American values? That a person is not presumed innocent, until "proven" guilty? That's not something you embrace? You don't believe in the rule of law? Which, BTW, is what this country is based on. So you basically reject the principles this country was founded on?

Truth and justice, is the American way. But you're no where near that, if you're gonna ressurect that Iraq WMD lie again on Iran. Different country, different lie, same formula.

Iran hasn't threatened anyone and they haven't attacked another country in over 200 years. So what the fuck is all this war talk about? People who want war with Iran, are sick in the head.

If Iran were a citizen of the US, your post might make some sense, but since it isn't, your post makes no sense at all.

American values are not something you can store in your closet when you travel outside the country. You either believe in this country, or you don't. Thinking that it's okay to presume people (or country's) guilty without any proof of such, is rejecting everything that is American. Our values, do not stop at our borders.

Would this be the nukes they were about to get in 1982, the ones that could strike America about 10 years after that with the ICBMs Iran was developing or the latest lies?

I think it's worth noting the history of right-wing lies...

- Twenty years ago, in 1992, Netanyahu declared Iran would deploy nuclear weapons in 3-5 years.

- In 1995, Israeli officials warned Iran would have nuclear arms by 2000.

- In 1998, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld warned that Iran would have intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads by 2003 that could strike the United States.

- Netanyahu now insists Iran will have nukes within a year. US intelligence denies this claim. Even biased UN nuclear inspectors say Iran has no nukes.

Even so, hysteria and disinformation about Iran’s nuclear program continues without relent, intensifying war fever in America which is in the midst of election fever.

10 years ago, they said Iraq had WMD's, they were wrong about that!

How many times can someone be wrong before you start realizing these people are full of shit?

Wingnuts like the Bush Doctrine, i.e. pre-emptive strikes. Forget about proof.

"We cannot defend America and our friends by hoping for the best. We cannot put our faith in the word of tyrants, who solemnly sign non-proliferation treaties, and then systemically break them. If we wait for threats to fully materialize, we will have waited too long — Our security will require transforming the military you will lead — a military that must be ready to strike at a moment's notice in any dark corner of the world. And our security will require all Americans to be forward-looking and resolute, to be ready for preemptive action when necessary to defend our liberty and to defend our lives."

If they are full of shit, Iran can prove it easily by opening up its programs to IAEA inspectors. Failure to do that will be presumed to be an admission that Iran is trying to build nukes. It's really just that simple.

No it isn't. That's just another bullshit lie you're trying to get people to believe. I'm sorry, the emperor, doesn't have new clothes.

How about applying the Obama doctrine of blowing up people in the ME and Central Asia because we suspect they might be militants? Blowing up Iranian facilities we suspect might be used to build nukes would only be an extension of the Obama doctrine.

I don't support Obama's foreign policy either.

Obama is whacking evildoers. Iran hasn't done anything...yet...

ITA. Iran is our enemy and anyone who trusts them with nuclear power is crazy. Our number one priority is protecting this country, which means being proactive instead of reactive and we should look our for our allies, as well. Meanwhile, Obama telling people that he'll be more flexible after his re-election when it comes to our national security. We weren't supposed to hear that, but we did since he was too stupid to realize the mic was on.
