US MilitaryBase closures...more outsourcing?

I say pull out of the EU countries....period..they do not like us or want us there....so we should make their dream come true...and give our support to those who support us....Medical and tech always goes on no matter where we are located! ;)
True enough, but I can assure you that battlefield medicine is a very distinct area...the types of trauma and wounds seen from the battlefield are very very different than what is seen in the average emergency room (even ones in the big cities like NY or other areas with high incidents of violent crime).

Again, I am not opposed to pulling out the troops from Europe.

Are you a MD...just curious, because you sound like one? Also I am familiar with battlefield trauma...Vietnam era vet and former federal law enforcement ofcr! However this was not the debate...

I too am not opposed to pulling out of Europe... but only once it makes sense. Again, my main point all along has been that the welfare of the troops MUST come first. Therefore, we might have to swallow our pride and let the Germans benefit from our presence. As long as our troops benefit, that is all that matters.

Battlefield medical advance have come a long way. But having a place for troops to stabilize immediately after receiving their trauma is very important. Germany is *somewhat* safe. Especially when compared to Iraq, Saudi Arabia or even any of the Gulf States. Eventually, I hope we can have a large hospital someplace other than Germany, but until then, we have to let the military work with what they have.

Naw...just an old Army guy (30 yrs) Vietnam era also (joined in '68). Seen lots of casualties and done the first aid thingy for lots of em. I am in Research and Development though for the military so have to keep up with research areas (including battlefield medicine).

I was just trying to point out that the cure for cancer is not going to do a hell of a lot for the poor slob with his guts blown out and Viagra doesn't do crap for the other guy with the sucking chest wound.

Good discussion though.

Just a hair before my time...that makes you REALLY old!!!!

Regarding troops in Europe, there are a lot of operational reasons for keeping at least a small contingent there as well as in Korea. The great majority of troops though can be and probably should be pulled back to the US. I suspect one of the reasons we have not done so as yet is that we have no place to put them if they coma back all at once.
