And what's Bristol Palin's wonderful plan to try and lower these rates? You got it, the failed policy that helped lead to having the highest teen pregnancy rate, push abstinence only. Yes, not having sex will lead to not getting pregnant. Problem is, biology gives us a very strong desire to want to have sex, so simply telling teens that they can't won't work. THey will do it anyway. Push abstinence but at the same time birth control methods and as graphically as possible let them know what he consequences of irresponsible sex is.

Is Bristol Palin in some level of authority now? While I agree that her and her mother's abstinence only ideas are outdated and simply do not work, why are you posting this about Bristol? Does she has pull somewhere in our country where she can force her opinions on others?

Saw on Good morning american this morning she was going to be on talking about her campaign to try and lower the teen pregnancy rate, which made me post this. She's going on a publicity campaign. No pull except to keep pushing the same failed policy

Well, not my problem, its the parents. So when I have a kid, I'll do my part to teach them to be responsible. Another thing I'll do is not vote for any abstinence only pushing politicians.

what's up with people thinking posting opinions on message boards and making threads means anything other than posting opinions to kill some time and see how other's feel on the matter. I'm not out on any crusade or anything, geez

you're so quick to criticize someone else who's doing something to try to alleviate the problem that i thought maybe you had a reason other than being a raving asshat.

my mistake, sorry.

Abstinence works.

Funny, you should talk, as that's all you ever do. Criticize everybody.
Oh, and its a message board in case you forgot where we post opinions.

Criticize away, you are the one that looks like an asshat on a daily basis never putting for an intelligent argument

We've discussed this topic over and over again. Teens know how not to get pregnant. The vast majority of them do it on purpose. How do we stop that? Could entitlements and fatherlessness be the REAL issue? We need to stop making teen pregnancy so goddamned "socially acceptable" and start making marriage a more acceptable option. Very few single mothers in my area even consider marriage. And the daddies just disappear.. Then the cycle continues.

actually, i volunteer my time teaching this course UUA: Our Whole Lives to middle school kids so that they'll hopefully not contribute to the problem of teenage pregnancy. none of them are my kids.

you were saying something about "putting for an intelligent argument* i believe.

what does that mean in english, exactly?

is it something to do with golf?

Many do it on purpose? you know how incredibly stupid that sounds? Majority of them are accidents. Sure, there are some examples, but the world is not black and white. Finding examples of kids doing that does not mean its the norm, or all the kids do it. Nobody is making it cool, but its fact that simply saying you shouldn't do it won't prevent it. People make mistakes, its human nature. We don't live in a utopia where everybody is perfect.

What's wrong with pointing out that what they're doing to try to solve the problem won't work?

dels a miserable loser that has to deflect his lack of self esteem on to others. That's pretty much all he does here, criticize everybody else and make snide comments

Sorry doc, but I've been working with teen moms most of my adult life. Accidents do happen, but rarely. "We didn't feel like using a condom or the pill makes me fat" does not constitute an "accident" They all know the consequences and most are not unhappy about it. Look at the rates for SECOND children born out of wedlock. Its abysmal.

Sounds like we need to crack down on those teachers taking advantange of their students.
