As the European news flow overflow continues, it is useful to occasionally look at how America's own economy is doing. After all remember that the latest paradigm is that the US will decouple from everyone (as is always foolishly and erroneously assumed whenever the ROW turns lower) and carry the weight of the global economy on its own shoulders. So here is this month's refresh from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which informs us that in August, a new all time record number of Americans, or 45.8 million, relied on food stamps for sustenance. So for those who are looking for those up and coming states where the population has decided that slowly but surely work of any kind is an anachronism we suggest you move to Alabama, Delaware, Utah, or Washington: all states that have seen at least a 3% sequential increase in food stamp usage.

It is a credit to this system that despite the economy we continue to feed those who need it.

Of course it is a blot on our nation that so many people cannot find work enough to support themselves, but it is to our credit that we haven't abandoned them.

When Clinton made people work for welfare 70% no longer needed welfare, surprise. Make them work for food stamps and you'll find the same.

Of course if you don't avoid the moral hazard in bailing out banks and people you're encouraging the very problem you're trying to solve.

Just think BO has 50 million on food stamps and so 50 million who will vote for him. Now thats democracy as our founders intended!

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

Another conservative assumption. The rise in food stamps is tied in with the jobless and underemployment rates. You make those work for the stamps and they will do so. These are people who are not adverse to work. I know some of those folks myself.

Of course there is a FIX for the food stamp useage, the unemployment checks, the debt, the economy. Just force those 50,000 consumer good manufacturers back into america by tarriffing their communist made consumer goods sent here. Make it impossible for these special interests to move away to max out their wealth. Folks go back to work, they pay taxes, they get off of the safety nets. Then the support industries that service the manufacturers would ramp back up and problem solved! But this is a non starter because this would require kicking special interests out of public policy. And those guys have alot of money.....

Right, just like 70% of the welfare queens worked when Clinton, pressured by the first Republican Congress in 40 years, made them work for their welfare. Why is it that liberals can't think at all?

of course a liberal cant think at all. Hoover tried that and it started a trade war and the Great Depression. Also, a tarrif is just a tax on imported goods, not what consumers need during a deep recession.

non starter because in fact liberals have shipped so many jobs away and won't reverse course!!

    1) Make unions illegal ( 10 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    2) make minimum wage illegal ( 5 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    3) end business taxation; especially tax incentives to off-shore jobs ( 5 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    4) make inflation illegal ( 2 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    5) make Federal debt illegal( 2 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    6) send illegal workers home(8 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    7) Pass Balanced Budget Amendment to Constitution( 3 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    8) cut pay of government workers in half( 4 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    9) Make health insurance competition legal( 6 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    10) end needless business regulations ( 2 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    11) restrict Federal spending to 15% of GNP( 2 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    12) support unlimited free trade( 2 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    13) reduced unemployment compensation, welfare, food stamps, medicaid.( 2 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    14) privatize education, social security ( 4 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

    15) end payroll taxes ( 1 million new jobs) Democrats oppose

Since Democrats always oppose wisdom and common sense the only serious option is to make them illegal as the Constitution intended.
