We would have won in the long run
-even if Great Britan and Soviet Union had been conguered/ocupied

Not one enemy set foot on American soil.

IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFEAT

It's impossible to replay history, but this seems unlikely. At least unlikely that it would have happened in the same time frame.

Millions of Germans died in Russia. The P-51 flew with a British engine in it. The invasion of Europe was launched from Britain.

If history were to be re-written, it is more likely that Germany never invades Russia, Japan never bombs Pearl Harbor and Great Britain falls to Nazi Germany. The USA languishes in Depression as Germany and Japan gain power. When they have consolidated their power and forged alliances, they turn their combined power on the USA and the USA plays the role of the Germans, one against many, in that World War.

In another possibility, it's likely that the Russians and the Chinese are drawn into the war on the side of the Americans. However, the belated entry into the war by the Americans delays the invention of the Atomic Bomb and the rockets of the Nazis deliver new super weapons that they were able to develop absent the saturation bombing of 1943 and 44.

Also, the Germans are flying jets and the Americans and Russians and Chinese are flying Power props.

Given the horrors of that period of history, we were lucky to have everything unfold as it did. Don't fool yourself. If our carriers get sunk at Midway in 1942, the invasion of California happens that same year. If Hitler never invades Russia, Great Britain falls in 1940.

Japs or Germans setting foot on the USA mainland - not about to happen....................................

WW2 began for the United States when Jap bambersand midget subs attacked the US Fleet at Pearl Harbor. several large ships were sunk and many were damaged.

At the end of the war -24 battle ships, 35 aircraft carriers, 77 desroyer escorts, 92 cruisers, 501 destroyres , 406 destroyer escorts, and 262 submarines were in service.

This was the greatest navy that saile d the seas.

Didnt need help.

The US had the coolest looking uniforms in WW2.

Not over-the top like the Germans - or cruddy-looking like the brits.

When are you going over to Afghanistan to tell those nasty Talibanistas to wear uniforms like proper little soldiers!

Maybe you can convince them to act in a manner that is 100% predictable so that we can ambush and kill them just like we trained to do.

Or maybe you should pull your head out of your ass, and read up on insurgency vs. conventional forces.

Here's a nice little book from the Boer War in 1904 that would be a good place to start.

The Defence of Duffer's Drift - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The best line from the book:

"Now if they had given me a job," says like fighting the Battle of Waterloo, of Gettysburg, or Bull Run, I knew all about that, as I had crammed it up...."

WW2 best thing thatever happened to USA (Thank you Japan for pearl Harbor)

Lifted America from the Great Depression and a middling industrial and military power to undisputed Number One.

With acceptible casualties - only about 300,000 or so.

If we hadn't had an ocean in the way, Germany would have likely steamrolled us with the Blitzkrieg too, as America's military force was a skeleton crew.

It's not a matter of American exceptionalism. It's a matter of geography. That's why the Brits were spared also. The German's bombed the hell out of Britian, but the English channel prevented an invasion.

In WW2 - 5 casualties on US mainland from enemy actions - family camping in Oregon forest.

Laughable balloon-bombs from japs.

Non-attacks near LA.

Kraut spies caught and executed in short order.

If it was not for the russian front then all of hitler's forces would be concentrated in belgium to counterattack. Also it was critical that we had air fields in Britian. We couldn't have flown over the atlantic, bombed berlin, and come back.
