US Civil War: Fed vs. states

Those "home grown terrorists" won the American Revolution.

I didn't know a lot of sheeple in the military. We swore to uphold and defend the US Constitution ... not a bunch of dink politicians and the sheeple that hack along after them, grabbing whatever scraps they could.

Sheeple ~ public

We swore to uphold and defend the US Constitution ... not a bunch of dink politicians and the sheeple that hack along after them, grabbing whatever scraps they could.

And ended up in a lot of shit holes getting shot at over geopolitics that had nothing to do with the defending Constitution.

Correction ... defending political agendas of jacked up politicians. That's a WHOLE lot different than telling us to open fire on our own.

Kind of amusing though. You lefties that whined your asses off about Kent State all of a sudden think it's okay for the military to go after conservatives.

Not much hypocrisy there ....

You are on a roll keep it going.

Dont bet the rent money on it. For the most part they will point their weapons where ordered.

Look up what happened to the bonus army sometime. It may have been a long time ago, but, those were WWI vets, many of them decorated vets that they went after.

No way man, I know a lot of Military, have always know a lot of Military. These are volunteer Professional Soldiers who take pride in Defending the American People. If all 50 States were against the FED. I have no Doubt the US military would not turn their weapons on American People.

Now give the Fed the support of a block of states and maybe.

There will never be a block of states that will try to go out on their own. Too wedded to the govt. teat.

Missed that little thing called the US Civil War, did you?

Those who think like this will roll over an allow the government to do anything it pleases. When does it stop?

Don't have a clue where you got that confused ass lefty notion.
Prolly the same jacked up place you get the idea that I'd think it ok to go after cons.

Neither here nor there.

The troops will do what they are told.

When they're trying to reason with a jihadist with an AK-47 and explain they're on their side. They won't figure out that bullet just killed them until it does.

Really? How much time in service you got, Dan Daily? I'd swear I know more about what troops will do than YOU. You're just a hack and the only thing "left" about me is a jab.

Sadly you are probably correct. Whether Deliberate or not. The policies of our Government, no matter who is in control it seems, Have been largely designed to Weaken the States, and create Dependency among the people and the States.

I am not even going to point fingers. Both sides are at least complacent in it, and it has been happening pretty much since the first congress came to power.

It is just that today it seems we have reached a tipping point. last year only 47% of all Tax payers paid any actual Federal Income tax, after deductions and credits. Expect that number to pass 50% soon. Once you have over half the tax paying voters not paying any Taxes to the Fed. You have a power base that will always support more taxes on those who do pay, and more spending for all. With the States powerless and the Courts full of activists on both sides. The likelihood of reversing course through the Ballot Box is shrinking by the year. By the Bill passed really.

Sad state of affairs. As much as I want to see Obama and the Left wing Dem leadership in Congress gone. I am under no illusions that Republicans will all of the sudden return to Fiscal conservatism and cease being corrupt power hungry assholes.

Not sure what the answer is.

Yes and that settled the issue..

There is no way a state could survive on its own anymore. Too many services are provided by the federal government. A state breaking out on its own would have to reconstitute all services and protections provided by the central government

There has got to be a stopping point when the American people will step up and say enough is enough. This country cannot keep going in the direction it's going Either everybody will become submissive or they will become combative. obama has got to step up and be a leader and not campaigning community organizer.

The assholes that won have spent 140 years telling each succeeding generation of the glories of centralised government, the heroism of the northern soldier and the craven traitorousness of their grandfathers in gray.

"Surrender means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the War; will be impressed by all the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision." Pat Cleburne.

That was then, this is now. The issue was settled by a bunch of liberal pussies in Congress and the Supreme Court, and a President acting unconstitutionally. You want to keep going, or get back in your corner?

Fuck the leftwingnut, socialist central government. Y'all are pussies. Try growing a set and acting like fucking men, huh?

Hardly relevant at all. The States held Far More power before the Civil war, and were not nearly as subjugated by the Fed as they are to day. Not nearly as Dependent. In fact it was the other way around back then. The Fed was Dependent on the states to even raise an army.

Today we have a Fed that has all but took away a States ability to Defend itself at all. The Particular Balance of Power between the States and the Fed, that Made us Federal Constitutional Republic, and not any other Democracy. Has been tilted so far to the Fed, that we are a Federal Republic in Name only today, and with the Blatant Disregard for the Constitution, By Both Sides really. We are barely Clinging to the Constitution part as well.

Now today considering the Feds willingness to go against not just the Majority of the People, but in Many cases Large majority's of the People. On issue after Issue You have to wonder about the Republic part as well. When do Representatives become something else. How many times do they have to Disregard the overwhelming will of the people who elected them before they are no longer representatives?

The ones in blue were the traitors. They obviously can't read English. That would be the language the Constitution is written in. Just another example of US military bully-ism.

Get a clue. You aren't gong to win this quite simply because you are wrong.

Jihadist with an AK?
Geeze there is a greater chance of a 727 landing on the house tonight, and they dont even fly the damn things anymore. That friendly guy in the suit with the ID from an alphabet soup agency is a more realistic threat.

It's very relevant as a response to the comment it's directed at. Of course the states held more power ... there was NO legal reason they could not secede until 1868 -- after the fact where the US Government covered its ass.

Ahhh ... you mean like those 747's didn't land in the WTC's and the Pentagon? You mean those?

Want to try again?

The US never could have developed economically after the civil war if we had remained state centered. The key economic engine of the time was the railroads which needed a strong federal government to set rail standards, plan routes, acquire land and establish comonality. In-state bickering would have doomed the railroads along with communications, interstate highways, dams, electrical powergrids...you name it

You really don't understand America do you? The Government did not have anything to do with the Railroads. It was the railroads that were buying right of ways.
Ma Bell not the government started the communcation system in America Dams and the power grid all done by private ventures not the government.

Good start..

Now imagine if each railroad had to negotiate state by state, each with a separate gauge requirement, each with different safety and engineering standards. Same with communications and power grids. If each state developed its own standards for switching and routing you could have never developed and integrated network.
Train gauges where set by the 1830s
Power distribution was worked out between Westinghouse and GE.

Yep, and though great things came of the Civil war. Slavery Ended. We Became a powerful Nation not a weak Group of States. We also Lost something important, and set off down a course of weaker and weaker states and a stronger and stronger FED. Until we reached today where I wonder if we are even a Federal Republic at all anymore.
