US and Israel Must Stop Apologizing

It's fine to 'express regret' at the loss of life. It's wrong to apologize for doing what one must to stop being attacked. Israel has the video of the launchers in Qana. Israel gave notice that civilians should leave. Obviously, some chose to stay and provide Hizbollah with children they thought of as either shields or martyrs. :dunno:

US urges restraint after Qana

By Caren Bohan1 hour, 11 minutes ago

The United States urged Israel on Sunday to take more care to avoid civilian casualties in Lebanon after an air strike killed at least 60 people, but still resisted calls for an immediate ceasefire.

White House spokesman Tony Snow said U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was working to arrange the conditions for a "sustainable" halt to the violence as soon as possible.

"This is a horrible event, a terrible event, and we certainly want to make it clear that not only do we feel sorrow for what happened, but determination that it really is important to end the conditions that led to that," Snow told a group of reporters by telephone.

President George W. Bush is under pressure from Arab leaders as well as many in Europe who want an immediate ceasefire.

Despite Sunday's events, he still insists on a resolution that aims to end Hizbollah's military control of southern Lebanon, officials said.

Snow repeated that "Israel does have a right to defend itself" but said it should show restraint and remember that in the end it will need to have positive relations with Lebanon and work for a two-state solution for the Palestinians.

Bush was informed of the Qana attack at 6:40 a.m. EDT (10:40 GMT) by national security adviser Stephen Hadley and discussed it on the telephone with Rice and Hadley.

Snow said Bush wanted to push ahead this week toward a U.N. Security Council resolution that would set conditions for a ceasefire and establish a multinational force.

The Security Council met in emergency session on Sunday with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan urging the body to condemn the Qana attack and call for an immediate end to hostilities.

Despite growing calls around the world for an immediate ceasefire, the United States has insisted for days that hostilities should only be halted on a basis that will last.

It backs Israeli demands for the Lebanese army, bolstered by an international force, to deploy to the south of the country currently controlled by Hizbollah which has used the territory to rain rockets down on towns in northern Israel.

Images of destruction and mass civilian casualties in Lebanon are fueling anti-American fury throughout the entire Arab world and may force Israel to end its offensive sooner than it would like, without achieving its strategic goal of inflicting massive damage on Hizbollah.

Bush has insisted that a ceasefire package must include steps to compel Hizbollah to stop attacking Israel while putting pressure on Syria and Iran to stop arming Hizbollah with rockets and other weapons. (Additional reporting by Steve Holland)

Im afraid that in todays' world what you say in nearly more important as what you do and apparently Israel recognizes that fact. Repeatedly stating the are "sorry" for civilian deaths is for public consumption and critics. It's an obligatory statement for those that Israel can do no right by. In the mean time they continue to fight as they must for those that support and understand thier right to self defense by whatever means necessary.

This is becoming a show down between the UN, the US and Israel. With the US feigning inability to stop the fighting and the Hizbullys' offensive still occuring, the UN looks as impotant as ever.

The apologies amount to an admission of guilt. That is how both the Islamics and the UN will play it. Not to mention Chirac.

According to the Islamics, the UN and Chirac, Israel is ALWAYS guilty. This is just PR stuff to float out to the media.

And the MSM reports it in light of UN and Chirac. Get a grip on reality, it's not just PR, but reality.

If Israel did not "apologize" you know what the headlines would be?

" ISRAEL KILLS CIVILIANS AND WON'T EVEN APOLOGIZE "

How about, "X number of innocent civilians claimed to be killed. Israel disputes the 'innocent civilian' numbers."

Can anyone give me a link where Hezbollah apologizes for killing and targeting innocents in Isreal? After all, they are the good guys in this fight, right? Why else would the MSM portray Israel as antagonists?

Nope.

Because Israel knows the MSM would never print that. In PR you have to understand how the media will spin an event and try to pre empt it.

Gee, I thought we needed to understand that Israel was spinning and lying in order to take over the world. They probably won't survive. In all likelihood, neither will 'we', for Israel is the canary.

You're right, Isreal should not apologize for civilian deaths. They should just come out and say 'for every Israeli you kill, we will kill 100 of yours'.

Why Bush is apologizing is beyond me, we are not responsible for any of this.

Like RWA, you are very likely to see your dreams fulfilled. I think there is a very good chance that Israel will be destroyed. Apologies or not, it wouldn't matter, never has.

Question is, after Israel, who?

Answer that yourself--why do YOU think Bush is apologizing ??

then again, who really took down that building? Tailor made for the conspiracists, but Israel doesn't have those on this message board. Picks at site:

IDF: Qana building fell hours after strike

(VIDEO) IDF continuing to check difficult incident at Qana village, and attempting to account for strange gap between time of the strike on the building – midnight – and eight in the morning, when the building collapsed

VIDEO - An IDF investigation has found that the building in Qana struck by the Air Force fell around eight hours after being hit by the IDF.

"The attack on the structure in the Qana village took place between midnight and one in the morning. The gap between the timing of the collapse of the building and the time of the strike on it is unclear," Brigadier General Amir Eshel, Head of the Air Force Headquarters told journalists at the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, following the incidents at Qana.

That would be a neat trick, seeing as how they've defeated Arab armies 6 times, and now the former threat of Saddam is nonexistant.

Iraq wasn't part of the attackers. Different times, different scenarios. In any case, those that have been hoping for destruction of Israel are in all probabilities about to be fulfilled.

Give it up. No one here is calling for the destruction of Israel. Your paranoia will get you before anything else will.
