The European satellite Proba V captured an interesting meteorological phenomenon.
After projecting that image onto the map of this area it turns out that each of these fallstreak holes was over or right next to a large city:

The largest hole in the cloud cover was over New Delhi.
Jets also cause fall streak or "hole punch clouds"..:

Considering that an ever larger proportion of the weather data recording stations are in populated areas raises the question how much these numerous holes pushed up the anomalies that have been published.
Obviously the sun is beating down on a city through a hole like that with a much greater intensity than on to the surrounding area which is under a cloud cover.
It`s equally obvious that this difference dwarfs the effect of a tiny w/m^2 component the CO2 can possibly exert.

There is often a large 'snow hole' or 'wind hole' over Albuquerque and that is a natural phenomenon. As snow or rain clouds are included in an approaching low, the wind is accelerated as it is pulled over or through the Sandia Mountains that form the eastern boundary of the city and that tears up the clouds. As a result, Albuquerque gets more sun and temperatures in Albuquerque can be several degrees warmer than the adjacent land.

So of course any weather station in Albuquerque is going to skew the average temps a bit.

Add the phenomenon expressed in the OP, and also the fact that a lot of asphalt and concrete is going to absorb more heat than undeveloped land, and the fact that probably most weather stations are located in the cities, it does make you wonder how much global temperature averages are affected by that.

Great, now how do we get liberals to move to the countryside?

A great percentage of weather data is collected from those heat islands too.

That`s easy. Leak a fake pipe line plan or start building a wall section and they`ll camp there forever.

This is an expected result of an urban heat island or upward plume. Not only is the land use a problem its the area of albedo that is lost in the same area causing the uptick in heat recorded.

When these are taken into account the potential CO2 warming is less than zero.

Why would the effect of these plumes not be present in temperature measurements taken in these locations? Those direct measurements do not support the conclusion you seem to prefer.

Rural stations show the same warming trend as urban stations. Hence, this very old conspiracy theory still fails.

Urbanization effects in large‐scale temperature records, with an emphasis on China

The conspiracy theory also fails in a very visible way. This image shows the amount of warming for one sample year. It warmed most in the Arctic, where there are no large cities. There is no correspondence at all between the amount of warming and urban areas.
