Watching CNN: It sounds as if the Egyptians want to split the country in half, rather like what india and pakistani did.

No, they did not refer to it that way. That is the was it was called in time of Pharaohs.

They are just talking about splitting the country in two. I do not know if they want to do this along religious lines as india and pakistani did or by some other way of judging the mark of separation.
