Federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment on Monday against a Russian national who is akey link to the National Rifle Association.

Maria Butina, 29, was arrested on Sunday in Washington, DC, but her indictment was sealed, being revealed after President Donald Trump’s Helsinki summit with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin.

The National Security Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the National Security Division of the U.S. Department of Justice are prosecuting the case.

Alexander Torshin, the head of Russia’s central bank, and Butima met with Donald Trump, Jr. at the NRA’s 2016 convention.

In April, Russian expert Alina Polyakova told CNN it appeared she was running a gun-based influence campaign in the United States.

“We could give them the benefit of the doubt and say this is just a natural interest and affinity; this guy Torshin and this woman Butina are just gun aficionados,” Polyakova noted. “To me this seems like part and parcel of an influence operation.”...

Maria Butina, 29, a Russian citizen residing in Washington D.C., was arrested on July 15, 2018, in Washington, D.C., and made her initial appearance this afternoon before Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Robinson in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She was ordered held pending a hearing set for July 18, 2018.

Emphasis added because “organizations having influence in American politics” is 100 percent the NRA and the Republican Party by proxy. Furthermore, the complaint says that Butina “took steps to develop relationships with American politicians in order to establish private, or as she called them, "back channel" lines of communication.” Hmmmm … recall Jared Kushner also trying to set up a “back channel” line of communication in December 2016?

Butina so successfully infiltrated the NRA, Republican politics and the Trump campaign in particular, Tim Mak at the The Daily Beast reported that just days after the 2016 election, Trump officials were at her birthday party in D.C.
