Given that the United States is deemed responsible for the welfare of tens of thousands who came here illegally, penniless, uninvited, and without notice, and given that these people must be vetted before they can come into the country at large (and many are sent back), it is not surprising that there are a lot of them.

As for the "rate" of children in detention, what is the DENOMINATOR of that number, and how is it relevant to anything at all?

I suspect that, truth be told, Turkey has a higher "rate" than the U.S., if only anyone cared enough to accumulate and report the relevant data.
